After a long and complicated separation, West Coast rap icon Xzibit and his estranged wife Krista Joiner are now officially single. As confirmed by PEOPLE, a court has granted their request for bifurcation, meaning they are both legally “restored to the status of single persons” as of Monday, April 28—despite their contentious divorce proceedings still being unresolved.
Xzibit Files for Bifurcation to End Marital Status Quickly
Xzibit, real name Alvin Joiner, filed the bifurcation paperwork on April 24, requesting the court to separate their marital status from the rest of the divorce proceedings, which include child support, spousal support, and division of assets.
The court documents state that the couple has been separated for more than four years, and that “reconciliation is not possible.” In the filing, Xzibit wrote, “I no longer want to be married to Petitioner,” adding that ending their marriage would “alleviate emotional strain and pressure” for both parties and help facilitate a smoother settlement process.
Xzibit’s Legal Team Accuses Krista Joiner’s Attorneys of Delays
Roslyn Esquire, Xzibit’s lawyer, accused Joiner’s legal team of failing to respond to her inquiries since April 7, potentially stalling negotiations and further complicating the case. Despite their officially single status, major issues involving financial support and custody arrangements remain unsettled.
Krista Joiner Alleges Financial Abandonment and Struggles to Pay Rent
According to TMZ, Krista Joiner is seeking to amend her spousal and child support to over $21,000 and $9,000, respectively, in order to maintain what she describes as their previous standard of living. The filings also reveal that she and the couple’s son were removed from their home after failing to cover $10,000 monthly rent. Additional luxury expenses, including designer clothing, were also reportedly unaffordable due to financial cutoffs.
Joiner is requesting $300,000 in attorney fees, arguing that she lacks the resources to keep up with the escalating legal battle.
Krista Speaks Out: ‘I Have No Emergency Funds’
In a recent statement to InTouch Weekly, Joiner opened up about her current struggles, claiming she’s been left financially vulnerable and emotionally unsupported.
“I am extremely concerned that I have no funds in case of an emergency,” she said, referencing a recent fire-related emergency. “During this or any other crisis, [Xzibit] has proven that he will not assist, or even inquire to see if we need help.”
