Legendary country star Dolly Parton is singing praises for Beyoncé and her critically acclaimed album Cowboy Carter, which includes a powerful reinterpretation of Parton’s iconic 1973 hit, “Jolene.” In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Parton shared her thoughts on Beyoncé’s daring creative choices and her admiration for the artist.

“I’m a huge fan of Beyoncé,” said Parton, calling her a “magnificent artist.”
“I loved the album—it was really, really good.”

A Legendary Collaboration: Parton Appears on Two Tracks

Released in March 2024, Cowboy Carter features Parton’s voice on two tracks: “Dolly P” and “Tyrant.” The country music icon said she was honored by Beyoncé’s decision to include her and delighted by the modern, assertive twist on “Jolene.”

“Hers was more like, ‘You’re not getting him. You’re going to have to go through me,’” Parton explained.
“Mine was more like, ‘Please don’t take him!’ So I loved her interpretation.”

The contrast between Beyoncé’s confident defiance and Parton’s emotional vulnerability created what many fans call a powerful evolution of the classic ballad.

    Songwriting Respect and Creative Freedom

Parton also emphasized how much she enjoys seeing other artists breathe new life into her work:

“As a writer, you like to hear how different people interpret your songs, and how they put their own spin on it,” she said.
“I was very proud of it, and I hope her tour does great—I’m sure it will. People seem to be loving it.”

Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour Shatters Records

Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour has already made headlines for breaking records. After kicking off on April 28 at Los Angeles’ Lofi Stadium, the superstar played five sold-out shows, concluding on May 9. According to Billboard, Beyoncé earned $55.7 million and sold 217,000 tickets—making it the largest single-venue engagement in Boxscore history by a female artist.

Projected to gross over $300 million by its final stop on July 26 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the tour is shaping up to be one of Beyoncé’s most successful ever.

A Historic Blend of Country and Culture

Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter isn’t just a musical success—it’s a cultural moment. With powerful nods to country legends and Black roots in country music, her album has sparked renewed conversations about genre inclusivity and female empowerment. Parton’s enthusiastic support further validates Beyoncé’s genre-blending innovation.

From “Jolene” to “Texas Hold ’Em”, Beyoncé’s country chapter is not only chart-topping—it’s trailblazing.
