While Azawi is widely celebrated for her musical talent, she has another deep passion—football, particularly for Manchester United. Over the years, she has remained a devoted fan, but how did this love for the sport begin?
A Passion That Grew Over Time
Azawi’s interest in football wasn’t something she actively sought out; rather, it was something she grew into naturally.
Growing up in a large social environment, she was constantly surrounded by people, but her real journey with football began when she joined Kika Troupe in Primary Five.
“When my mother took me to join the group, I found a lot of boys there, and they would watch football a lot. I had no choice but to watch what they were watching.”
After training sessions or performances, the group would often gather to watch football matches together, and that’s where her interest in the sport started to develop.
The Influence of a Die-Hard Manchester United Fan
Among the people who introduced her to the sport, one person played a crucial role—Kaddu, a passionate Manchester United supporter. At that time, Manchester United was one of the most dominant football teams.
“Those were the days of Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, and Ronaldo. I think that’s also when we had Van Persie from Arsenal… it was a deadly team, and I saw other teams were weak.”
Watching United’s thrilling performances under Sir Alex Ferguson, Azawi became completely captivated by the team. The fast-paced action, legendary players, and historic victories made her an unwavering Red Devils supporter.
A Lasting Connection
To this day, Azawi remains a loyal Manchester United fan, often engaging with fellow supporters and keeping up with the team’s performances. Her journey into football proves that passion can sometimes develop in the most unexpected ways.
While she continues to dominate the music scene, she never forgets to show support for the team that shaped her love for football.
