Pretty Banks Opens Up About Early Struggles in Music and Disappointment with Eddy Kenzo’s Big Talent

Rising Ugandan artist Pretty Banks has shared details of her early struggles in the music industry, including a disappointing encounter with Eddy Kenzo’s Big Talent Entertainment.

    Seeking Help from Eddy Kenzo

During the early days of her music career, Pretty Banks sought mentorship and recognition from Eddy Kenzo, a renowned Ugandan artist and the founder of Big Talent Entertainment. Hoping for guidance, she reached out to him via Instagram, and to her surprise, he responded, inviting her to visit his office in Makindye.

    A Disappointing Meeting

Excited about the opportunity, Pretty Banks arrived at Big Talent’s offices, expecting to meet Kenzo in person. However, things did not go as planned. Instead of meeting the star directly, she was directed to the receptionist.

“Kenzo didn’t meet me. When he was coming from his office, I set myself up and waved my hands to get his attention.”

When she finally caught his attention, their brief exchange left her feeling discouraged:

“He asked me, ‘Who are you?’ and I responded, ‘I’m the girl you talked to on Instagram, and you told me to come and talk to the receptionist.’ He then said, ‘Oh, she should work on you.’”

    No Assistance from Big Talent

Despite her excitement at seeing Kenzo in person—describing him as both good-looking and intimidating—the experience quickly turned disappointing. The receptionist informed her that they were not signing musicians at that moment and merely took her phone number, promising to call her back.

“The receptionist just told me to leave my number and said she would call me. But she also mentioned that they were not signing musicians at that moment.”

    Ignored Follow-Up Messages

Determined to get a second chance, Pretty Banks followed up with Kenzo via Instagram, explaining that the receptionist had not provided the help she needed. Unfortunately, this time, Kenzo did not respond. Instead, he blue-ticked her message, leaving it unread and unanswered.

    A Lesson in Persistence

While the experience was discouraging, Pretty Banks has not given up on her dreams. Her story serves as a reminder of the challenges young artists face when trying to break into the music industry. Despite the setback, she remains focused on her journey, hoping for better opportunities in the future.
