Gal Gadot is opening up about why she believes Disney’s live-action Snow White didn’t reach its full potential — and she’s pointing the finger at politics.
In a recent interview with Israeli TV, Gadot said the movie, which she starred in alongside Rachel Zegler, was a joy to film and that she was confident it would be a hit. But everything changed after October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked a music festival, escalating the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.
“Celebrities were suddenly under pressure to denounce Israel,” Gadot explained, referencing her home country, where she served in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). She implied that her refusal to publicly condemn Israel contributed to the negative attention the film received.
More Than Just Politics
It wasn’t only Gadot’s political stance that sparked controversy. Snow White faced criticism on multiple fronts:
- Conservatives accused Disney of “woke messaging.”
- Some stars criticized Disney for using CGI dwarves instead of casting real Little People actors.
- Co-star Rachel Zegler drew criticism after expressing support for Palestine.
The political context affected other Hollywood figures as well. For example, Melissa Barrera was reportedly fired from the ‘Scream’ franchise after showing support for Palestine, showing how sensitive the issue has become in entertainment circles.
Critics vs. Audiences
Despite the controversy, the film’s reception tells an interesting story:
- Critics: 38% score on Rotten Tomatoes
- Audience: 70% score
Gadot seems convinced that, in a different environment, Snow White could have been a major hit — instead, she says, it was “put into an eternal sleep by Disney.”
“It was supposed to be magical. I loved making it. Working with Rachel was amazing,” Gadot said, expressing her lingering disappointment.

What Fans Are Saying
On social media, opinions are divided:
- “I actually loved Snow White! Gadot was perfect.”
- “Politics shouldn’t decide a movie’s fate, but Hollywood makes it impossible sometimes.”
- “Rachel and Gal just got caught in a storm. The audience deserves to see the movie without all the drama.”
While critics may have been harsh, audiences seem more forgiving, proving that star power and politics don’t always align with public opinion.
