Hon. Geoffrey Lutaaya Opens Up About His Journey to Becoming Kakuuto MP and His Music Career

Hon. Geoffrey Lutaaya, the Kakuuto District MP and renowned singer-turned-politician, has shared the inspiring story of how his dream of becoming a Member of Parliament (MP) came true after the 2021 general election. The musician, who garnered over 10,000 votes to win the Kakuuto seat, opened up about his childhood aspirations, his journey into politics, and how he navigated his way from music to public service.

    A Dream Nurtured from Childhood

For Hon. Geoffrey Lutaaya, becoming an MP was not just a career move; it was a lifelong dream. The father of three revealed that his early life had a significant influence on his political aspirations. Growing up as the last born of a family with a father who was a policeman, Lutaaya was often involved in political movements from a young age. He shared that his father would take him along during these political activities, sparking a deep interest in serving his country.

“Going to parliament was my dream because my father was a policeman, and I was the last born. He would take me along during the political movements, and eventually, I took over,” Lutaaya recalled, reflecting on the early exposure to politics that shaped his ambition. This passion led him to work relentlessly toward achieving his goal, and eventually, he made the decision to return to school, pursue relevant courses, and later join the National Unity Platform (NUP). His hard work and determination ultimately paid off when he was elected as an MP for Kakuuto District.

The Transition from Music to Politics

Before stepping into the world of politics, Geoffrey Lutaaya was already a well-known figure in the Ugandan music industry. He shared that he began his music journey at the age of 18, writing his own songs and pursuing his passion for singing and songwriting. Lutaaya is known for his hit song “Evelyn”, which he wrote and performed when he was just 18 years old.

“I write my songs, and I write more than I sing. When I sang ‘Evelyn’, I was 18 years old,” Lutaaya said, proudly recalling the song that marked the beginning of his music career. His songwriting ability and passion for music laid the foundation for his future, but over time, his drive to make a difference in his community led him to shift focus toward politics.

A Political Career Fueled by Determination

Lutaaya’s journey from music to politics was not without challenges, but his passion for public service kept him on track. By joining NUP and dedicating himself to grassroots movements, Lutaaya won the hearts of the people of Kakuuto District. His message of change and determination resonated with voters, and his victory in the 2021 elections marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

Now, as an MP, Hon. Geoffrey Lutaaya is using his platform to advocate for his constituents, drawing from his past experiences in music and his deep-rooted commitment to public service. His transition from musician to politician shows that dreams can be achieved with hard work, perseverance, and a clear sense of purpose.

Looking Ahead: A Future in Service

As he settles into his role as MP, Lutaaya’s focus remains on serving his community and making a difference in the lives of his constituents. He continues to balance his political career with his passion for music, showing that it is possible to pursue multiple interests while staying dedicated to one’s calling. His story serves as an inspiration to others, demonstrating that with determination and a strong sense of purpose, it is possible to turn dreams into reality, regardless of the path one takes.
