Selena Gomez‘s attorney is pushing back hard against allegations in a lawsuit targeting the singer and her role in Wondermind, calling the claims against his client “completely meritless” and preparing to fight the case in court.
Attorney Matthew Rosengart issued the statement after two companies sued Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey and their former business partner Daniella Pierson over allegations involving the mental health company.
Rosengart tells TMZ that any allegations suggesting Selena engaged in fraud or other wrongdoing are “completely meritless, both factually and legally.” PEOPLE was first to report his statement.
The attorney says he intends to vigorously defend Gomez and is already working on a motion to dismiss what he describes as baseless claims.
The lawsuit was filed by Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC, which are suing the three women over Wondermind Global.
According to the companies, the defendants made false representations to investors about the startup’s infrastructure, leadership and resources needed to turn the company into a profitable platform.
The plaintiffs also claim there was a significant gap between Gomez’s public involvement with Wondermind and her participation in the company’s day-to-day operations. They further allege Pierson exaggerated aspects of her business success.
The companies claim that for three years, investors were not told that the business was allegedly deteriorating. They say they only learned about the company’s financial and operational problems after an article in The Cut brought the situation to light.
The lawsuit also references allegations involving Teefey that appeared in The Cut. Teefey denied the substance abuse allegations to the publication, as well as claims that Wondermind was in disarray.
The legal battle now puts Wondermind’s founders and the company’s history under a much brighter spotlight.
For Gomez, however, her lawyer is making her position clear: She denies the allegations, plans to challenge the case and is seeking to have the claims against her thrown out.
