Ssuuna Ben recently opened up about a life-changing moment when Eddy Kenzo came to his aid during a difficult period, saving him from starvation and helping him find stability in Kampala.
Struggles in Kampala
Fresh from Masaka and determined to make a name for himself in Kampala, Ssuuna faced immense hardships, including food scarcity and financial struggles. Despite these challenges, he resolved to stay in the city and pursue his dreams, but the harsh realities of urban life soon took their toll.
Reaching Out to Eddy Kenzo
On one particularly tough day, overwhelmed by hunger and desperation, Ssuuna thought of the musicians he had known from Masaka. The first name that came to mind was Eddy Kenzo.
“I called Eddy Kenzo, and he told me he had heard that I had come to Kampala. He asked why I hadn’t visited him yet.”
Ssuuna had intended to reach out but lacked the means to do so. Kenzo invited him to visit in Makindye, but without transport money, Ssuuna embarked on a long walk, asking for directions along the way.
A Warm Welcome from Kenzo
Upon arrival, Ssuuna was surprised to find Kenzo casually playing football with friends, despite his celebrity status. Kenzo greeted him warmly and inquired about his life in Kampala.
Kenzo then turned to his Big Talent crew and jokingly told them they’d have to walk home because he and Ssuuna would ride together in his car, reminiscing about their days in Masaka.
Kenzo’s Act of Kindness
After reaching Kenzo’s office, Ssuuna could no longer hold back his desperation.
“Kenzo, enjala enuma (Kenzo, I’m so hungry), I’m going to die,” he confessed.
Without hesitation, Kenzo reassured him and ensured he would not go hungry. Concerned about Ssuuna’s well-being, he also asked if he had a place to stay. When Ssuuna mentioned he was staying with Lil Pazo, Kenzo generously offered him a spot at the Big Talent offices if needed.
Kenzo then instructed his team member, Sewa Sewa, to bring some money. Sewa returned with Shs 70,000, which Kenzo handed to Ssuuna, telling him to get something to eat and promising more support the next day.
A Life-Changing Gesture
Kenzo’s kindness left a lasting impact on Ssuuna Ben, proving that beyond his musical success, he remains a compassionate mentor willing to uplift others in need.
