Trinity Tatum was already riding high after winning Love Island USA Season 8, but an unexpected encounter with Rihanna gave the reality star another moment she will not soon forget.
Tatum has revealed what the global music star told her during their viral meeting at a Fenty Beauty event earlier in October — and it was Rihanna’s apparent familiarity with her that made the interaction especially memorable.
Speaking to PEOPLE at the 2026 InStyle Imagemaker Awards in Los Angeles on October 15, Tatum recalled Rihanna welcoming her with a warm greeting.
“She was like, ‘Yeah, we love you here,’” Tatum said, explaining that she had not expected the singer to recognize her.
The moment became even more overwhelming when Rihanna said her name.
“When she said my name, mentally, I exploded,” Tatum told PEOPLE, adding that she had been trying to keep herself from crying.
Footage of the encounter circulated online after Tatum shared a video showing Rihanna enthusiastically greeting her, holding her hands and embracing her before they posed for photographs.
For Tatum, meeting an artist she admires was exciting enough. Realizing that Rihanna appeared to know who she was made the experience even more significant.
The encounter comes during a period of increased visibility for Tatum, who won the eighth season of Love Island USA alongside her boyfriend, Bryce Alakai, 30. The couple took home the show’s $100,000 prize after emerging victorious in the dating competition.
Since leaving the villa, the pair have been adjusting to life in the public eye while continuing their relationship outside the reality television series.
Tatum and Alakai also attended the InStyle Imagemaker Awards together, where they reflected on their rapidly changing lives.
“It’s been like a rollercoaster of emotion, but it’s fun,” Tatum told PEOPLE. “We’re blessed.”
Alakai also expressed gratitude for the experience, describing it as amazing to navigate the new attention alongside Tatum.
Their relationship developed during the competition, with conversations and challenges helping move their connection beyond friendship. Alakai previously recalled wanting to demonstrate that his interest in Tatum was genuine after she questioned the authenticity of his on-screen relationship. A direct conversation later helped the pair clarify their feelings.
