Donald Trump isn’t exactly shedding a tear over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle heading back to the United Kingdom.
Reporters in the Oval Office asked the president directly how he feels about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moving their lives back across the pond.
Trump’s response was blunt.
“I’m happy about it. I was not a fan,” he said.
Trump went on to criticize the couple’s treatment of other members of the British royal family, saying he felt Harry and Meghan had been “terribly disrespectful” to their fellow royals.
He also suggested he would have handled their situation differently.
“Maybe I’m different, I wouldn’t have taken them back,” Trump said.
Harry and Meghan stepped away from their senior royal roles in 2020 and later established their family life in California. The couple has primarily lived in Montecito, where they have maintained a private home.
News recently emerged that Harry and Meghan were planning to spend more time in Britain, marking a major shift from their California-based lifestyle.
However, their U.K. plans apparently don’t mean they’re completely giving up their California life.
The couple is reportedly holding onto their Montecito property even as they prepare to spend more time in the U.K.
Trump’s latest comments add another pointed chapter to his history of speaking publicly about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
For now, Harry and Meghan appear to be preparing for a transatlantic lifestyle — with one of their biggest American critics making it clear he’s perfectly happy to see them go.
