A deadly shooting in downtown Minneapolis has left three people dead and six others injured, including three police officers, according to updated reports.
The shooting erupted Wednesday as Minneapolis police responded to reports of gunfire involving multiple victims.
At 5:32 PM PT, FOX21 reported that the death toll had risen to three. One victim died at the scene, while another died at a hospital. The identity and circumstances surrounding the third fatality were not immediately detailed in the supplied report.
The suspected gunman is confirmed dead.
Three police officers were injured in the shooting, with two of them suffering gunshot wounds. Earlier reports said two officers had been struck by gunfire — one in the shin and another in the abdomen. Their conditions have not been released.
Authorities initially described the suspected shooter as being “down,” but it was not immediately clear whether the person had been killed, wounded or taken into custody. That was later clarified with confirmation that the suspect had died.
Minnesota officials quickly responded as law enforcement secured the area.
Governor Tim Walz said his public safety team was responding and state officials were assisting local authorities at the scene. He later thanked the first responders working to protect people in the area, writing, “Minnesota is praying for our first responders.”
FBI Director Kash Patel also said he was aware of the shooting and that the bureau was prepared to provide whatever resources were needed.
Minnesota gubernatorial candidates Amy Klobuchar and Lisa Demuth also released statements offering prayers for those affected and praising the response from law enforcement.
Despite the confirmed deaths and injuries, investigators have not publicly established what led to the shooting.
