50 Cent’s Las Vegas Residency Draws Criticism for ‘Lack of Energy’

50 Cent’s highly anticipated Las Vegas residency has come under fire after a scathing review from Jennifer Gay, a prominent influencer and blogger at Vegas Starfish. Gay criticized the rapper’s performance for its “lack of energy” and poor sound quality, calling it one of the worst shows to hit the Vegas strip.

    A Disappointing Experience

Gay shared her frustrations on Instagram, expressing disappointment with 50 Cent’s six-show residency at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. “50 Cent’s Las Vegas residency might be the worst show that’s ever come to Vegas,” she wrote. “The theater was mostly full, and people seemed excited, but take a minute to listen, and then I’ll share why I thought it was terrible.”

Among her critiques, Gay highlighted technical issues and a lack of engagement from the rapper. “The sound in the theater was terrible, and the hypemen were louder than him for the entire show,” she noted. “He spoke once only to say he was doing six shows and then he was done. He performed for 84 minutes and then walked off stage. It really felt like he didn’t want to be there.”

A Far Cry from Earlier Performances

Gay, who had seen 50 Cent perform decades ago, lamented the stark contrast in energy and effort. “It was pure magic back then. This time was the opposite of that,” she commented. She also criticized 50 for not thanking the audience before leaving the stage, adding, “I understand that he’s successful and doesn’t need a residency, so why do it if he doesn’t want to put any effort into it?”

    Ja Rule’s Petty Response

Gay’s review quickly spread on social media, catching the attention of 50 Cent’s long-time rival, Ja Rule. Making good on his New Year’s resolution to be petty, Ja Rule took to X (formerly Twitter) to respond, writing, “Not the worst… ???????????? #ICONN.”

    Residency Details

50 Cent signed a $15 million deal for his residency at Planet Hollywood’s PH Live theater, with six exclusive shows running from December 27 to January 4. Promoted as an “experience you don’t wanna miss,” the residency promised to deliver unforgettable performances.

“My first Vegas residency is going to be an experience,” 50 wrote on Instagram in October. “I’ll be doing 6 Exclusive shows from December 27 – January 4 at PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Tickets on sale Saturday.”

    Fan Reactions

Fans’ responses to Gay’s critique have been mixed. Some echoed her sentiments, pointing to 50’s apparent lack of enthusiasm, while others defended the rapper, emphasizing his legendary catalog and the challenges of live performances. Regardless, the review has added fuel to the ongoing discourse about the value of high-profile residencies in Las Vegas.

As 50 Cent’s residency continues, it remains to be seen whether he will address the criticism or make adjustments to his performances. For now, the rapper’s Vegas debut has sparked both controversy and conversation, ensuring his time in Sin City won’t soon be forgotten.
