The body of Brandon Clarke has been officially cleared for release to his family, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office.
However, officials have not yet determined the cause or manner of death, which remains listed as “deferred” pending additional testing as the investigation continues.
Clarke’s sudden death at age 29 has prompted ongoing inquiries by authorities. Emergency responders were called to a medical incident on Monday afternoon in Los Angeles, where he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Law enforcement sources previously indicated the case is being examined as a possible overdose. Investigators reportedly found drug paraphernalia at the residence where Clarke was staying, though no official conclusion has been released.

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that paramedics responded to a call for medical assistance at approximately 5 p.m. before Clarke was declared deceased.
Clarke’s passing came shortly before he was scheduled to appear in court on charges including alleged controlled substance trafficking and felony fleeing. Those proceedings were still pending at the time of his death.
The Memphis Grizzlies issued a statement earlier this week mourning the loss of Clarke, describing him as an “outstanding teammate and an even better person” whose impact on the organization and community would not be forgotten.
Tributes have continued to pour in from across the NBA, with teammates, coaches, and fans remembering Clarke for his energy, professionalism, and presence both on and off the court.
The investigation into his death remains ongoing.
