Rod Wave is back in the spotlight after body-camera footage from an April 2025 traffic stop resurfaced online.

The 62-second video, which surfaced on X and has reportedly surpassed 1.5 million views, captures the Florida rapper during a roadside encounter with an officer who eventually recognizes him.

The traffic stop took place at approximately 1:09 a.m. on April 3, 2025, according to the timestamp shown in the footage.

The encounter remained relatively calm, but the officer said Rod Wave had been traveling at 83 mph. Despite that, the rapper was not cited for speeding.

Instead, the stop ended with a seatbelt citation—and a surprisingly casual exchange between the artist and the officer.

The footage begins with the officer approaching Rod Wave and asking whether he had his driver’s license.

“Bro, you got your license on you, bro?” the officer asked.

    “Hell no,” Wave replied.

The interaction then took an unexpected turn when the officer appeared to recognize the person behind the wheel.

“You know who you are? I just seen you coming,” the officer said.

The officer instructed Wave to secure his seatbelt before returning to his patrol vehicle.

He then contacted another officer identified as Brown.

“Brown, I got Rod Wave pulled over, bro,” he said over the radio.

Another officer apparently asked whether Wave was live, with the exchange reflecting the first officer’s apparent excitement at realizing he had stopped the rapper.

The officer also discussed Wave’s driving.

According to the footage, he said Wave “swear he tried to take off on me a little bit” and claimed he had to catch him.

The officer said the vehicle had reached 83 mph.

Despite mentioning the speed, however, he decided not to issue Wave a speeding ticket.

“I ain’t going to give it to you for the speed we was going,” the officer said. “It was only 83, it’s not a super speed.”

Instead, the officer issued Wave a citation for not wearing his seatbelt.

The officer explained the citation process and asked Wave to sign the document.

He also clarified that signing the citation did not constitute an admission of guilt.

Wave remained composed throughout the exchange.

Toward the end of the encounter, the rapper appeared relieved that the situation had not escalated further.

“I appreciate you stopping,” Wave said. “But … thought we was going to get into it.”

“Come on, shawty. Have a good one,” the officer responded.

The interaction then ended without an arrest or additional charges.

The resurfaced footage dates back more than a year, but its recent appearance on social media has brought renewed attention to the encounter.

Wave, whose legal name is Rodarius Marcell Green, is one of Florida’s prominent hip-hop artists and has had other encounters with law enforcement.

His legal history includes separate proceedings in Georgia stemming from other incidents.

However, the newly circulated footage does not establish any new criminal conduct.

The video documents a traffic stop that ended with a seatbelt citation after the officer chose not to cite Wave for the reported 83 mph speed.

The resurfaced clip has also drawn attention because of the officer’s apparent change in demeanor after recognizing the rapper.

Rather than turning the encounter into a more serious confrontation, the stop remained conversational and ended without an arrest.

The footage offers a snapshot of how celebrity recognition can influence the tone of an otherwise ordinary traffic stop.

The officer appears to become more animated after realizing that the driver is Rod Wave, even discussing the encounter with another officer over the radio.

At the same time, the available footage does not establish that the rapper received unlawful preferential treatment.

What it does show is an officer choosing to issue a seatbelt citation rather than a speeding citation despite saying Wave had been traveling at 83 mph.

The video therefore provides a documented look at officer discretion during a roadside encounter involving a high-profile artist.

Wave’s response near the end of the stop adds a glimpse of his perspective.

After receiving the seatbelt citation instead of facing a more serious traffic consequence, he told the officer he appreciated being stopped but admitted he had thought the encounter might become confrontational.

The officer’s response remained casual, and the two parted ways without further incident.

For viewers discovering the footage more than a year later, the brief exchange has become notable less for the citation itself than for the unexpectedly relaxed interaction.

Rod Wave’s resurfaced body-camera footage documents a traffic stop that ended with a seatbelt citation after an officer said the rapper had been traveling at 83 mph.

Despite the attention surrounding the clip, it shows no arrest or new criminal charge—just an unusually memorable roadside encounter.
