Diddy Countersues Rodney Jones Over Allegedly Stolen Footage

Sean “Diddy” Combs is firing back at Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones with a new legal claim centered on footage allegedly taken from Diddy’s personal video archive.

According to the allegations described in the countersuit, Diddy claims Jones used his position as a videographer and producer to access computer drives containing footage that was intended for a documentary about Diddy’s life.

Diddy further alleges that Jones copied the material and sold it to Netflix and 50 Cent for use in the documentary series Sean Combs: The Reckoning.

The allegations add another layer to an already contentious legal dispute between Diddy and Jones, who previously sued the music mogul over allegations of sexual misconduct.

Importantly, the claims in the countersuit are allegations, not findings that have been established by a court.

Diddy is alleging that Rodney Jones violated his trust by taking video footage that Diddy says belonged to him.

According to the countersuit, Jones was among several videographers who accompanied Diddy and his family to St. Barts in December 2022.

Diddy claims Jones attempted to get close to him during the trip, including sleeping on a couch aboard the mogul’s yacht.

The filing, as described, alleges that Jones later accessed another videographer’s workspace and took computer drives containing footage.

Diddy claims the material was supposed to be used for a documentary about his own life, giving the alleged footage dispute a direct connection to the later Netflix production involving 50 Cent.

The countersuit alleges Jones copied the footage and ultimately sold it to Netflix and 50 Cent.

Diddy claims the material was then used in Sean Combs: The Reckoning, the Netflix documentary series produced with 50 Cent.

Diddy has previously objected publicly to the documentary’s use of footage, with his representative describing the Netflix project as a “shameful hit piece” and alleging that Netflix relied on footage that was never authorized for release.

The broader documentary dispute is not new. 50 Cent’s Diddy docuseries was sold to Netflix following a bidding process in 2024, with the project focused on allegations surrounding Combs.

Diddy’s latest legal claims now put Jones directly in the middle of the dispute.

He also alleges that Jones defamed him in the documentary by repeating accusations previously made in Jones’ own civil lawsuit.

Those claims are separate from the underlying sexual-assault allegations Jones previously brought against Diddy.

Diddy is also alleging that Jones’ original lawsuit was an attempt to pressure him for additional money connected to what Diddy characterizes as producer services, despite Jones allegedly having already been paid.

Jones has previously denied wrongdoing in the broader dispute, and the allegations contained in Diddy’s countersuit remain contested.

Jones, a music producer and videographer, sued Diddy in 2024, alleging that the music mogul subjected him to sexual misconduct and other inappropriate behavior.

Jones alleged that Diddy groped his genitals and touched his anus and claimed Diddy would walk around naked in his presence.

Jones also made allegations involving Diddy’s son, Justin Combs, as well as Cuba Gooding Jr. and Stevie J. Those individuals have denied the allegations.

A later development in the case involved Jones’ claims against Justin Combs and Cuba Gooding Jr. being dismissed without prejudice after the court found that they had not been properly served.

Diddy has consistently denied Jones’ allegations. In a separate discovery dispute reported in June 2026, Diddy accused Jones of failing to properly provide medical records and described some of Jones’ discovery requests as improper.

The new countersuit therefore adds a completely different dimension to their dispute: ownership and alleged unauthorized use of video footage.

That issue now intersects with the highly publicized Netflix documentary involving 50 Cent.

The alleged footage could be significant because Sean Combs: The Reckoning featured previously unseen material connected to Diddy’s life and legal troubles.

Diddy’s camp has already argued that footage recorded at his direction was never transferred to Netflix or another third party and was intended to allow him to tell his own story.

The new allegations against Jones, if proven, could therefore become important to Diddy’s broader argument over how footage from his personal archive reached the documentary.

But there is a critical distinction between an allegation and a judicial finding.

Diddy’s countersuit presents his account of how the footage was allegedly obtained and distributed. Jones has not, based on the information provided here, publicly responded to these latest allegations.

The dispute is ultimately about more than documentary footage.

It involves questions of trust, ownership and the control of a public figure’s personal story at a moment when Diddy’s life and legal troubles have received extraordinary media attention.

Diddy says footage intended for a project about his own life was allegedly taken and repurposed for a competing documentary.

Jones, meanwhile, is already a plaintiff in a separate civil dispute with Diddy.

That makes the latest filing another chapter in a legal battle that has increasingly moved beyond the original allegations.

Diddy is now accusing Rodney Jones of taking footage that he says was meant for his own documentary and selling it to Netflix and 50 Cent.

The allegations will have to be tested through the legal process, with Jones’ response to the new claims still awaited.
