Kehlani Dropped From Pride Festival Over Pro-Palestine Advocacy

Kehlani’s headlining gig at San Diego Pride has been canceled, fueling controversy as community leaders and fans clash over her outspoken support for Palestinian rights.

The Grammy-nominated singer, celebrated for her queer identity and activism, now finds herself at the center of a heated debate over free speech, human rights, and antisemitism accusations.

The Backlash: Kehlani’s Posts Spark Outrage

The uproar began when advocacy groups accused Kehlani of sharing “inflammatory” social media posts criticizing Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Adam Maslia, director of the Finest Community Coalition, didn’t mince words:

“Some of what Kehlani has promoted on Instagram mirrors—and at times exceeds—the language used by the individual responsible for the firebombing attack in Boulder, Colorado,” Maslia claimed.
“Her posts encourage hostility toward Jewish people and are extremely dangerous.”

The accusations have led several organizations to cut ties with Kehlani in recent weeks.

San Diego Pride Defends Its Values—But Takes Action

San Diego Pride’s interim executive director, Kristin Flickinger, addressed the decision in an interview with NBC 7.

While she acknowledged the festival’s “zero-tolerance policy on hate speech,” she also defended the importance of giving platforms to marginalized voices:

“We are deeply committed to creating space for dissenting views—especially when those views come from queer people of color at a time when such voices face suppression at the federal level.”

    Fans Rally Behind Kehlani

Not everyone agrees with Kehlani’s removal. Many fans and LGBTQ+ activists are calling out what they see as “censorship” of her pro-Palestinian advocacy, arguing that human rights should not be politicized.

“Human rights should apply to everyone,” said Daniel, a festivalgoer interviewed by NBC.
“Why can’t Palestinians be included in that? Kehlani’s views aren’t hateful—they’re compassionate.”

#StandWithKehlani has even started trending on social media, with fans urging other festivals to keep her on their lineups.

???? Pride Attendance Soars Despite Controversy

Amid the storm, San Diego Pride reported that ticket sales have doubled compared to last year.

“The festival lasts two days, but its proceeds support vital services and community grants,” Flickinger said.
“We’ve given over $3 million to LGBTQIA+ organizations across San Diego.”

But this year’s event isn’t just a celebration—it’s become a lightning rod for bigger conversations about identity, activism, and belonging.

    ???? Social Media Reacts:

    Fans Say:

???? “Kehlani speaks truth to power. Silencing her is silencing us.”
???? “Pride is about inclusion—why exclude someone for standing up for human rights?”
???? “I’m canceling my ticket. Pride without Kehlani isn’t Pride.”

    ???? What’s Next For Kehlani?

With more organizations distancing themselves, fans are wondering if this is the start of a larger industry “blacklist”—or if Kehlani’s activism will spark a new wave of solidarity.

Will other festivals follow San Diego Pride’s lead—or will they double down on supporting artists who speak out?

???? Do You Think Kehlani Was Wrongfully Canceled?
