Cardi B is thinking beyond music when it comes to her legacy — and she wants her four children to inherit more than just her royalties.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the “Am I the Drama?” rapper opened up about motherhood, wealth and entrepreneurship, explaining why she has become focused on building assets her children can benefit from long after she is gone.
“I was panicking,” Cardi said. “It’s like, yo, I leave this earth and my kids are going to have just music royalties.”
The rapper said her children could eventually inherit royalties, properties and liquid assets. But she wants to build something specifically for them that can continue generating value beyond her music career.
“What is something that, God forbid, something happens to me, I leave behind that is for them?” she asked.
Cardi pointed to her haircare company, Grow Good, as one potential answer.
“This is, God forbid, something happened to me; this is theirs,” she said.
The conversation highlights how motherhood has become part of the way Cardi thinks about her career and business ventures. She welcomed daughter Kulture with Offset in 2018, followed by son Wave and daughter Blossom. She later welcomed her fourth child with NFL player Stefon Diggs.
But Cardi says becoming a mother has not meant abandoning the personality that helped make her a global star.
“Motherhood has not changed my style, honey,” she said during a May interview with E! News. “They haven’t changed me for s–t.”
Her approach to parenting also comes with some very relatable household rules.
Cardi joked that Kulture has become a regular visitor to her closet and admitted she has grown tired of her daughter getting into her things.
“This girl is always in my closet,” Cardi said. “I’m just about sick of it.”
Now, she wants to turn those closet raids into a lesson in responsibility.
“Maybe that’s what I’m going to start teaching her,” she said. “If you want to play in my closet, you got to clean.”
For Cardi, the bigger lesson goes beyond cleaning up a wardrobe. She is thinking about teaching her children responsibility while simultaneously building businesses and assets they can one day inherit.
Her music may have built the foundation, but Cardi is clearly thinking about what remains after the music stops.
