The woman who accused Jay-Z of sexual assault in a lawsuit has now completely recanted her allegations, saying there is “no truth” to her claims and that she has never even met the rapper.
The woman, who filed the lawsuit as Jane Doe, made the reversal in a new court document obtained by TMZ. She says Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter, never raped or sexually assaulted her and that the allegations identifying him were false.
“I understand my false accusations have caused Mr. Carter immense pain, suffering, and damage that can never be fully undone,” she states in the filing.
The woman originally alleged that Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs raped her when she was 13 while a third celebrity watched. The lawsuit was filed in December 2024 by Texas attorney Tony Buzbee.
She now says there is “no truth to any of my claims against Mr. Carter” and insists she has not received financial compensation from Jay-Z or anyone acting on his behalf for the recantation.
Her new attorney, James Blair Newman Jr., says his client maintains that she was sexually assaulted, but was mistaken when identifying Jay-Z as one of the people responsible.
“Mr. Carter did not rape her, sexually assault her, engage in any inappropriate conduct towards her, and she has never met him,” Newman Jr. tells TMZ. He says she “sincerely and unconditionally apologizes” to Jay-Z and his family.
The woman also says she had disclosed mental health conditions to her legal team before the original lawsuit was filed. She says the chain of events began after she encountered a Facebook advertisement in September or October 2024 seeking people who believed they had sexual assault claims involving Diddy.
According to her new account, the advertisement triggered memories of a sexual assault she says occurred when she was 13. She clicked the advertisement, contacted AVA Law Group and was subsequently connected with Buzbee.
Jay-Z had strongly denied the allegations from the outset.
The woman had already voluntarily dismissed her lawsuit against Jay-Z in February 2025. The following month, Jay-Z filed a lawsuit against Buzbee, his law firm and Jane Doe.
Now that the former accuser has publicly recanted her allegations against him, Jay-Z is letting her off the hook in that case, according to the supplied report.
His legal fight with Buzbee, however, is continuing.
