The heartbreaking Texas floods have left a trail of devastation across the Lone Star State, and now two brave young boys are sharing their gut-wrenching tale of survival after nearly being swallowed by rising waters at their summer camp.

Piers and Ruffin Boyett, campers at Camp La Junta in Hunt, Texas, are speaking out about how they escaped the deadly deluge that turned their childhood summer adventure into a fight for their lives.

“We have bunk beds in our cabin, and [the water] was going to the top bunk. We had one choice, and we had to swim out of our cabins,” young Piers told KSAT 12 in an emotional on-camera interview.

As Texas reels from catastrophic flooding that has claimed at least 32 lives so far, the Boyett brothers’ harrowing account is a stark reminder of how quickly the disaster unfolded.

    Flash Floods Strike Without Warning

The Boyetts were among dozens of campers at Camp La Junta caught off guard when flash floods barreled through the area earlier this week.

    • Rising water trapped kids in their cabins
    • Some campers had to climb into rafters to avoid drowning
    • Others like Piers were forced to swim to higher ground in the dark

Piers and Ruffin, along with their fellow cabin mates, made a desperate dash to another building on higher terrain. There they huddled for hours as they waited for rescue teams and buses to arrive and ferry them to safety.

Camp Mystic Tragedy: Over 20 Girls Still Missing

While the Boyetts were fortunate to escape, the situation at nearby Camp Mystic is far more dire. Officials confirmed that more than 20 girls from the camp remain unaccounted for, and frantic search efforts are underway.

Rescue crews are scouring flood-ravaged areas around Hunt, TX, using boats, helicopters, and drones in hopes of locating survivors.

“We Just Wanted to Get Home Safe”

Older brother Ruffin said his group was luckier:

“The water didn’t get as high in our cabin, so we were able to walk out when it was safe. But some other cabins weren’t so lucky.”

The brothers are now back with their family but remain shaken by the ordeal. Their story has gone viral on social media, with parents across the country expressing gratitude that the boys survived — and sending prayers for the missing girls.

    Texas Communities Rally Together

As heartbreaking images of submerged homes and destroyed roads flood the internet, local communities have launched GoFundMe campaigns and supply drives to support affected families and camps.

The Road Ahead: Rescue and Recovery

The floods are being described as the worst to hit Texas in decades, and meteorologists warn that saturated ground could lead to further mudslides and infrastructure collapses.

For now, families of the missing Camp Mystic girls wait anxiously for news, while survivors like Piers and Ruffin begin to process their terrifying brush with death.

“We just wanted to get home safe. I’ll never forget that night,” Piers said quietly, clutching his brother’s hand.
