Kampala, get ready — CHAN 2024 is about to shake the city to its core!

As Uganda gears up to co-host the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) from August 2–29, the Uganda Police Force is making it crystal clear: plan ahead, or get caught in a jam.

Whether you’re heading to Mandela National Stadium (Namboole) to catch the Cranes in action or simply trying to get through your daily commute, new traffic guidelines are officially in place.

“This is a continental event. Cooperation from the public is key to making it a success.” – SP Michael Kananura, Public Relations Officer, Traffic & Road Safety

    ️ What’s Going Down?

CHAN 2024 is no small affair. It’s bringing top football talent from across Africa to Uganda, with teams like:

    • Algeria
    • Niger
    • Guinea
    • South Africa
    • Uganda (let’s go Cranes!)

All Group C matches will be played in Kampala at the 32,000-seater Mandela National Stadium, which means traffic disruptions are guaranteed.

Full Traffic Game Plan: What You Need to Know

Here’s the official road map to avoid the mess, as issued by Uganda’s Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety:

Main Travel Routes for Team Movement

To manage the influx, heavy traffic and trucks will be rerouted or restricted in key areas:

    • Seeta: Trucks redirected via Namugongo
    • Kinawataka: No truck access to Kireka
    • Bweyogerere: Reroute via Kinawataka Rd (Jokas Hotel)
    • Kireka Trading Centre: No vehicles past Hared Petrol Station
    • Kireka–Jokas stretch: Pedestrians only

Translation: Avoid these routes unless you’re ready to walk or wait.
