Jermaine Dupri is feeling himself—and his sock game.
The So So Def mogul just claimed he unintentionally set off a fashion frenzy at Super Bowl LVIII, and it all started with a bold accessory move: $1,500 designer socks.
In a new interview on 7PM in Brooklyn, the Wave original podcast hosted by Carmelo Anthony, Dupri didn’t hold back on how confident he feels about changing the fashion game—with his feet.
“They $1,500 Socks. They Sold Out.”
“They $1,500 socks,” JD said, nonchalantly. “They sold out after I did the Super Bowl. You can’t find them socks no more.”
According to Dupri, the luxury socks weren’t just a flex—they turned into a full-blown trend.
“We be watching the internet and we be seeing Pharrell do Fashion Week and I be thinking like, everybody following the sht,” he said.
“I seen the outfit, I’m like, sht, I want to rock that. That’s some fashion sh*t… So I’m like, I want to wear this on the Super Bowl.”
JD Claims He Set the Trend
What started as a bold style move became his personal fashion moment.
“Nobody ain’t said nothing about nobody else wearing it… So then I start realizing, okay, maybe everybody ain’t up on the fashion sh*t,” he said.
“Ultimately, I’m glad it happened the way it is. I made it my thing.”

“By the way, Usher was a little upset about this,” Dupri admitted.
“Because out of his whole performance, this is what came out of—my socks got more press than damn his show.”

Columbia Didn’t Get the Vision—Until It Was Too Late
Elsewhere in the interview, Dupri dropped another music industry gem, revealing how he had to fight Columbia Records to feature JAY-Z on his Life in 1472 album instead of leading with his song with Mariah Carey.
“JAY-Z was the most prominent New York rapper,” he explained.
“You saw where he was going. So me saying I want my first single to be with this guy… the suits at Columbia was like, ‘Who the f**k is Jay-Z?’”
Columbia wanted the sure hit: Mariah. But Dupri had his ear on the culture.
“They didn’t understand what it was,” he said. “I was just like, I’m from Atlanta. We are looked at like we don’t know what hip hop is.”
That decision aged well—JAY-Z went on to become a billionaire and hip-hop GOAT.
