Bridgette Pelletier is living every parent’s nightmare.
Her 18-year-old son, Giovanni Pelletier, mysteriously vanished on August 1st after what was supposed to be a family trip to Florida. Just minutes after being picked up by cousins from his father’s side, Giovanni sent his mother a bone-chilling text: “Mom help.”
Since that moment, he hasn’t been seen or heard from again.
“My son would never run away and just text me ‘help me,’” Bridgette tells The Pop Radar. “He knows I’d burn the world down to find him.”
A Family Trip Turns Into a Nightmare
Giovanni, a North Carolina teen and the eldest of Bridgette’s five children, had been looking forward to this trip. He had recently turned 18 and was eager to reconnect with his biological father’s family in Florida, where he lived as a young child before moving north with his mom.
Bridgette, 34, says she supported his curiosity about his roots—even if she had reservations.
“He was craving the culture and background from his dad’s side,” she says. “I couldn’t give him that, so I wanted him to have those opportunities.”
The Last Time Anyone Saw Giovanni
On August 1 at around 1:30 a.m., Giovanni was picked up in Englewood, Florida, by three cousins he had been chatting with via group text. His stepfather, Jeremy Brown, saw him off while Bridgette slept.
But within 30 minutes, everything went terribly wrong.
At 1:56 a.m., Giovanni texted his mom twice—including the now-haunting message, “Mom help.” He also tried calling and FaceTiming her, then messaged his aunt and grandfather when she didn’t respond.
Bridgette didn’t see the missed calls or messages until around 6:20 a.m., when she also noticed a missed call from one of the cousins—made an hour after the pickup.
“He only called me that one time,” Bridgette says through tears. “And then no effort was made to let me know what happened or to check in.”

Giovanni’s Backpack—and Phone—Left Abandoned
Following her instincts, Bridgette tracked Giovanni’s location through GPS. What she found made her blood run cold.
“His phone and backpack were just left on the side of the road,” she says. “He would never leave those behind. He eats, sleeps, showers with that phone. Something’s wrong.”
The items were found in Bradenton, Florida, in Manatee County—far from where he was staying.
Family Claims He “Panicked” and Ran
The story from Giovanni’s paternal relatives has only raised more red flags.
According to Bridgette, one cousin told her that after they picked up Giovanni, the group smoked marijuana together. The cousin claimed Giovanni suddenly became paranoid, cursed at him, pulled a knife, and then fled after a brief scuffle.
But Bridgette isn’t buying it.
“That’s not my son. He’s not aggressive. He’s kind. If he ran, it’s because he felt unsafe,” she insists.
Adding to the confusion, Giovanni’s paternal grandfather left a vague voicemail stating there had been “some kind of altercation” and that the cousins had left him on the roadside. He ended the message by saying, “Let me know when you find him.”
None of the cousins have reached out since.
Law Enforcement’s Version Doesn’t Add Up
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office issued a brief statement the next day, claiming Giovanni had been traveling north on I-75 when he suddenly “acted erratically” and exited the vehicle near SR70 in Manatee County.
That’s where the official search begins—but Bridgette believes the truth is still being hidden.
The Sheriff’s Office has not responded to The Pop Radar’s request for comment. Meanwhile, Bridgette feels law enforcement is treating the case too casually, possibly because Giovanni is legally an adult.
“If he were 14 instead of 18, I think they’d be doing a lot more,” she says.
Who Is Giovanni Pelletier?
Bridgette describes Giovanni as compassionate, protective, and the heart of their family. He’s particularly close to one of his younger brothers, who has autism, and is known to look out for others.
“He has a heart of gold. When you meet him, you know he’s special,” she says.
Community Rallies Behind the Search
Bridgette and a growing group of volunteers have been canvassing neighborhoods, organizing search parties, and distributing flyers throughout Charlotte and Brevard counties.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to Giovanni’s safe return or the conviction of anyone involved in his disappearance. A GoFundMe campaign has also been launched to support ongoing search efforts.
A Mother’s Desperate Plea
Bridgette hasn’t slept much since August 1. She’s haunted by those last messages and driven by the belief that her son would never willingly disappear.
“He knows my number by heart. It’s the only one he knows,” she says. “If he could reach me, he would. I just know it.”
“I feel so helpless right now because I have no direction. But I’ll never stop looking. I will move heaven and earth if I have to.”
