Frankie Muniz Breaks Wrist in Ladder Fall, Forced Out of NASCAR Truck Series

Actor-turned-racer Frankie Muniz is sidelined after a freak accident left him with a broken wrist — throwing his NASCAR Truck Series season into jeopardy.

The 39-year-old Malcolm in the Middle star revealed on Thursday that he fell off the top of a ladder while changing the batteries in his backyard Ring camera. The tumble left him with a busted wrist, and doctors estimate a 6–8 week recovery time.

That timeline puts Muniz out of the driver’s seat for the immediate future — a crushing blow as the NASCAR Truck Series playoffs kick off this weekend in South Carolina.

    Frankie Breaks the News Himself

Muniz broke the news in a heartfelt post to fans:

“While I’m gutted to miss the races, I’m grateful it wasn’t worse. I feel for my team, who’ve poured their hearts into this season, and I’m thankful for @FordPerformance and their unwavering support.”

The phrase "FML" (Frankie Muniz's Life) takes on new meaning with moments like these. I'm disappointed to share that I won’t be racing at Darlington this weekend or for the next few weeks due to a distal radius fracture. He also kept his trademark humor intact, joking that he should have taken the warnings on his ladder more seriously:

“Note to self: heed the ladder warning that says, ‘Do not sit or stand on the top step.’ In hindsight, a taller ladder would’ve been smarter.”

Hungry to Prove Himself in NASCAR

Earlier this year, Muniz scored a top 10 finish at Daytona — proving he wasn’t just a celebrity hobbyist but a serious competitor in the sport.

Back in February, he told TMZ Sports that he was “more hungry than ever” to earn respect on the track:

“The only way to earn respect with my fellow racers is to be out there racing against them, racing them clean, and earning it by where I finish.”

That hunger makes this injury even tougher, as Muniz has just a handful of opportunities left this season to cement his presence in NASCAR’s highly competitive Truck Series.

    Timing Couldn’t Be Worse

With only five events left on the NASCAR Truck Series calendar, Muniz’s recovery timeline likely rules him out for the remainder of the season.

It’s a tough break — literally — for a driver who’s been steadily proving himself in a sport where celebrity crossovers are often met with skepticism.

    From Hollywood to the Speedway

Muniz’s journey from sitcom fame to the racetrack has been anything but ordinary. After health issues in the 2010s slowed down his acting career, he found a second act in professional racing — something he’s described as a lifelong dream.

Fans have rallied behind his underdog story, admiring both his passion and his perseverance. And despite this setback, Muniz is already promising a return as soon as doctors clear him.

    What’s Next for Frankie Muniz?

For now, it’s rest, recovery, and cheering from the sidelines. But knowing Frankie, it won’t be long before he’s strapping back into the No. 33 truck and chasing down another strong finish.

Until then, he’s urging fans not to make the same mistake he did when it comes to ladders: “Don’t ignore the warning labels.”
