    The boxing community is in mourning after the death of Joe Bugner, a heavyweight legend whose career spanned over three decades and saw him face some of the sport’s greatest names.

    The British Boxing Board of Control confirmed the news Monday, extending condolences to Bugner’s family. He passed away at his home in Brisbane, Australia at the age of 75.

    From Hungary to England: Early Life

    Born in Hungary, Bugner moved to England at age six, beginning a journey that would cement his place in boxing history. He turned professional in 1967 at just 17 years old, quickly making a name for himself in the heavyweight division.

    By the early 1970s, Bugner had risen to become British and European champion, facing formidable opponents that would define his legacy.

    Fights Against Legends

    Bugner squared off against Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, losing 12-round decisions but earning admiration for his skill, heart, and perseverance. His bout against Ali in 1975 for the world championship remains one of the most memorable heavyweight matchups of the era.

    Despite the losses, Bugner’s resilience and technical prowess earned respect from fans and fellow fighters worldwide.

    Comeback and Later Career

    Remarkably, Bugner staged a career comeback in 1995, winning the Australian heavyweight title at the age of 45.

    Over his career, he compiled a record of 69 wins, 13 losses, and 1 draw, with 41 victories coming by knockout, cementing his reputation as one of the era’s most durable and skilled heavyweights.

    From Boxing Ring to Big Screen

    Outside the ring, Bugner also pursued acting, appearing in the Jean-Claude Van Damme classic “Street Fighter” and a series of Italian films alongside Bud Spencer, showcasing his versatility and charisma beyond boxing.
