The sports world is reeling in shock and grief following the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on Wednesday afternoon. Prior to the heartbreaking confirmation of his death, athletes, celebrities, and public figures took to social media to express their prayers and condolences.

Among those sending messages of support were Jake Paul, Le’Veon Bell, Dave Portnoy, Ryan Garcia, Riley Gaines, Bruce Pearl, and Antonio Brown. Each voiced concern for Kirk and his family as news of the shooting circulated online.

    Social Media Flooded With Prayers

Jake Paul wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

“Charlie Kirk got shot for telling the truth. That is literally it. What a mentally sick time we are living through. We need God more than ever.”
“Praying for Charlie’s family and praying for these evil people to heal.”

Brett Favre, Hall of Fame quarterback, shared his own somber words before the confirmation of Kirk’s passing:

“I’m at a loss for words. Only thing I can think of is tragic. Please keep @charliekirk1776 and his family in your prayers…”

The heartfelt messages from athletes joined those of prominent politicians, including President Donald Trump, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Vice President J.D. Vance, who condemned the attack on the college campus.

Even younger athletes joined in. New York Giants rookie Jaxson Dart shared a moving Instagram Story expressing his concern for Kirk and his family before official news of the death was released.

    President Trump Confirms Kirk’s Death

Minutes after the social media outpouring, President Trump posted on Truth Social, confirming that 31-year-old Kirk had passed away.

“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us.”

Dave Portnoy also shared his reaction, emphasizing the magnitude of the tragedy:

“RIP Charlie Kirk. It doesn’t matter what your opinion is of Charlie or his politics. If you don’t view this as one of the darkest days in American history, then you are part of the problem.”

More Condolences From the Sports Community

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker added a moving tribute:

“Thank you for your strong witness for Christ @charliekirk11. Thank you for pursuing truth and leading your family as a husband and father. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.”
“May their soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”

    Chaotic Scene on Campus

Videos captured at the event show hundreds of students gathered to hear Kirk speak when the shooting occurred. Panic immediately broke out, with attendees scrambling for safety. Authorities confirmed that a suspect is still being sought, and the investigation remains ongoing.

    Nationwide Reactions and Reflection

The shooting has ignited nationwide discussions about campus safety, targeted violence, and the role of public figures in society. From professional athletes to political leaders, the response highlights the collective shock and sadness across communities.

While Kirk was known for his political activism and work with Turning Point USA, the shooting has united people across industries in prayer and mourning, emphasizing the human cost beyond politics.
