Ye Accuses Nike of Design Theft Amid Kim Kardashian’s New Partnership with the Brand

In a move that has once again brought Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) into the spotlight, the rapper and fashion mogul accused Nike of design theft on February 18, coinciding with the announcement of Kim Kardashian’s new partnership with the athletic giant.

Taking to social media, Ye suggested that Nike had replicated the unique, minimalist sneaker designs that he had popularized with his Yeezy brand. In a sarcastic post on Instagram, he showcased images of his forthcoming GT Future sneaker and mocked the sportswear brand’s new design. “THIS NEW NIKE DESIGN REALLY MOVED US / REALLY INSPIRED US AT YEEZY WE APPRECIATE YOU GUYS WORK TO THE TEAM TEAM BEHIND THESE THANK FOR MAKING SOMETHING NEW AND SPECIAL, LOVE YE,” he wrote. The post seemed to take a subtle jab at Nike’s creativity, although the company has yet to respond to Ye’s accusations.

The timing of Ye’s post appears to be no coincidence, as it coincided with Kim Kardashian unveiling her latest collaboration with Nike for her shapewear brand, SKIMS. Kardashian shared the announcement on Instagram, stating, “Introducing NikeSKIMS. A new brand coming this spring for the body obsessed. Designed to sculpt and engineered to perform.” NikeSKIMS is set to disrupt the activewear industry with its innovative designs for women athletes. In what seems like a diplomatic move, Kardashian subtly endorsed her ex-husband’s former business associates by sharing an AI-generated image of her Nike staff badge.

From Adidas to Nike: Ye’s Ongoing Clash with Collaborators

Ye’s social media tirades are not a new phenomenon. Since his fallout with Adidas in 2022 over his controversial remarks and subsequent loss of deals, Ye has been vocal about his grievances with his former collaborators. He accused Adidas of design theft and oppression before the infamous “tweet,” which led to his public backlash and severed partnership with the brand.

In his latest Instagram post, Ye expressed his frustration with Adidas, stating, “When you google Yeezy.com, the adidas site comes before the Yeezy site. Members at Adidas stop doing this. Stop doing your moves to hold me back.” He went on to claim, “It’s Yeezy over everything,” suggesting that his creative work was being misappropriated, and the brand’s actions were part of a larger effort to suppress his influence in the fashion world.

While Ye has moved on from Adidas, his latest post regarding Nike reveals that he is not letting go of his concerns about design ownership and creative credit. His ongoing clash with major brands shows no sign of resolution as he continues to assert his dominance in the fashion and sneaker industry.

Kim Kardashian’s Subtle Endorsement of Nike

Kim Kardashian, who was once married to Ye, has seemingly taken a different path with her new collaboration. While her ex-husband publicly airs his grievances, Kardashian’s new partnership with Nike demonstrates a more conciliatory approach. By launching NikeSKIMS, she is positioning herself as a key figure in both the fashion and athletic wear industries, showing that she can forge her own path while still indirectly linking herself to Ye’s former business partners.

As Ye continues to voice his dissatisfaction with Nike, Adidas, and other past collaborators, the contrast between his public feud and Kardashian’s professional success serves as a reminder of how their split has had significant effects on both their personal and business lives.
