Pierre “P” Thomas, the influential cofounder of Quality Control Music, is hospitalized in Las Vegas after suffering a heart attack, with his family at his side as he receives medical care.
Quality Control Music confirmed Tuesday that Thomas is alive and currently being treated, pushing back against false reports that had circulated about his condition.
“P is alive and currently receiving medical care,” the label said in a statement, while asking the public to keep Thomas and his family in their thoughts and prayers and to respect their privacy.
Sources with direct knowledge previously told TMZ that Thomas was being treated in the intensive care unit at a Las Vegas hospital. Family members were also reported to be with him and consulting with doctors about his care.
The health emergency comes after years in which Thomas played a major role in shaping modern hip-hop through Quality Control Music.
Thomas cofounded the Atlanta-based label with Kevin “Coach K” Lee in 2013. The company went on to become a major force in the genre, helping build the careers of artists including Migos, Lil Baby and City Girls.
News of Thomas’ hospitalization prompted concern across the music industry, particularly because of his influence as both an executive and talent developer.
Quality Control Music has grown far beyond its early Atlanta roots, becoming a major entertainment operation. The supplied information also notes that the company was recently acquired by HYBE America, further expanding its position in the global music business.
