A newly surfaced video is putting NBA YoungBoy’s 2018 domestic violence case back in the spotlight, with footage appearing to show the rapper physically confronting his then-girlfriend inside a hotel hallway.
The more than three-minute clip, posted on social media Thursday night, shows YoungBoy grabbing the woman, throwing her to the floor and dragging her through the hallway. At one point, her top is pulled off, and the footage appears to show an injury to her face.
The woman appears to struggle to get away as the confrontation continues. Despite the disturbing sequence, the two ultimately walk away together down the hallway.
The video is drawing renewed attention because it provides a clearer and more extensive look at an incident that was already at the center of a criminal case nearly a decade ago.
YoungBoy, whose legal name is Kentrell Gaulden, was initially indicted on kidnapping and aggravated assault charges in connection with the 2018 incident. Those charges were later dropped as part of a plea agreement, and he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor simple battery family violence.
Under that agreement, YoungBoy avoided jail time and received 12 months of probation, a $1,500 fine and an order to attend anger management classes. He was also ordered to stay away from the woman shown in the footage.
The newly surfaced video is different from surveillance footage previously obtained from the case. According to the supplied material, the earlier footage showed a body slam, while the newer clip appears to capture considerably more of the confrontation.
YoungBoy’s attorney, Jimmy Manasseh, pushed back on the renewed attention surrounding the case, emphasizing that the matter was resolved years ago.
“It was a misdemeanor matter, resolved nearly 10 years ago,” Manasseh told TMZ. He also said he believed the woman had requested that the charge be dropped and noted that YoungBoy was not placed back in custody as a result of the matter.
The resurfaced footage has also prompted comparisons to other high-profile celebrity domestic violence cases, although those comparisons do not change the legal outcome of YoungBoy’s own case.
For now, the significance of the footage is largely tied to how much more of the 2018 incident it appears to show. Legally, however, the underlying case was resolved through the misdemeanor plea agreement years ago.
The video may be new to many viewers, but the legal chapter it revisits is nearly a decade old.
