Coco Gauff is making Flushing Meadows look very familiar.
The 2023 US Open champion steamrolled fellow American teenager Iva Jovic 6-1, 6-4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday, punching her ticket to the quarterfinals of the 2026 US Open.
Gauff needed just 1 hour and 33 minutes to shut down the 18-year-old American sensation and continue what has become a seriously impressive run through New York.
The victory pushed Gauff’s winning streak to 10 matches and kept her remarkable run of winning 20 consecutive sets alive.
In other words, the two-time Grand Slam champion isn’t just surviving in Queens.
She’s rolling.
Gauff’s serve, movement and big-stage composure were all on display as she controlled the match and repeatedly put Jovic under pressure.
Afterward, Gauff made sure to give her young opponent credit.
“Incredible player and incredible talent,” Gauff said.
But the American star also admitted Jovic pushed her harder than the scoreline might suggest.
“Give it up for Iva,” Gauff said. “There was one game when I felt like I was running a marathon. First time I was out of breath on court in a long time.”
Now comes the much bigger test.
Gauff is headed into a blockbuster quarterfinal against No. 5 seed Mirra Andreeva, the reigning French Open champion and one of the most dangerous young players remaining in the draw.
Andreeva already knows exactly what she’s walking into.
Gauff owns a perfect 5-0 record against the 19-year-old, but their next meeting comes with a semifinal berth on the line — raising the stakes considerably.
Andreeva has also noticed the changes in Gauff’s game.
“Coco is a great fighter,” Andreeva said. “No matter what’s going to happen, the match is going to be tough. And I think she’s now also improving even more. You know, her serve is better.”
That’s a warning Gauff probably won’t mind hearing.
The home crowd will be behind her, the serve is clicking and the confidence is clearly there.
After dismantling Jovic in straight sets, Gauff now has her sights firmly set on another US Open title.
