Kodak Black is off the hook in a Florida criminal case after a Broward County judge dismissed charges accusing the rapper of fleeing and resisting arrest during a traffic stop.
A judge granted Kodak’s motion to dismiss Tuesday, ruling that prosecutors had produced no evidence supporting the allegation that he attempted to elude police. The decision dismissed all charges and closed the case.
Kodak’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, welcomed the ruling, telling TMZ the defense was able to demonstrate through video evidence and the deputy’s deposition that the incident did not amount to fleeing.
“We are glad the court signed the order granting the motion to dismiss,” Cohen said.
The case stemmed from a February traffic stop that eventually led Broward County authorities to issue an arrest warrant for the rapper.
According to the warrant, Kodak allegedly knew deputies had ordered him to stop but “proceeded to flee from deputies.”
Kodak later self-surrendered to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in May.
At the time, Cohen strongly disputed the case, arguing that the arrest was based on a weak and unfounded allegation. He also accused authorities of repeatedly targeting the rapper.
Now, the Broward County case is officially closed following the judge’s dismissal.
But Kodak still has another Florida legal battle hanging over him.
Cohen is also seeking to have drug charges against the rapper dropped in Orange County. Kodak was arrested in Orlando after police said they found him in possession of 25 grams of MDMA, a synthetic drug that can have both stimulant and psychedelic effects.
For now, though, Kodak can put the fleeing case behind him — with the judge finding that prosecutors failed to provide evidence supporting the charge.
