Jay-Z pulled out some serious star power for the premiere of his upcoming HBO documentary series.
The Brooklyn rap icon celebrated Jay-Z In 8 Sunday night, September 13, at New York City’s Metropolitan Opera House, joining longtime friend and producer Rick Rubin for the world premiere of the eight-part HBO Original series.
And the guest list was just as packed as the occasion.
Leonardo DiCaprio, SZA, Daniel Kaluuya, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, Gunna, Lindsey Vonn, Robert Kraft, Michael Rubin, Yo Gotti, Winnie Harlow and Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson were among the stars who turned out for the event.
Following the red carpet, attendees gathered for a special screening of the documentary, which gives viewers an intimate look at Jay-Z’s life, career and creative process through an extended conversation with Rubin.
The celebration continued with an after-party at Lincoln Center Plaza, where guests enjoyed D’USSÉ cocktails throughout the evening.
Jay-Z Looks Back at 30 Years of Music
Jay-Z In 8 arrives three decades after the release of Jay-Z’s landmark debut album, Reasonable Doubt, and finds the rapper reflecting on the experiences, relationships and pivotal moments that shaped his career.
Across the eight episodes, Jay-Z breaks down his songwriting process while exploring the connection between his personal experiences and some of the music that made him one of hip-hop’s most celebrated artists.
The series features classic Jay-Z tracks including “99 Problems,” “Brooklyn’s Finest,” “4:44,” “Can I Live,” “Where I’m From,” “The Story of O.J.,” “No Church in the Wild” and “Legacy.”
The timing also comes as The Blueprint continues to demonstrate its lasting impact. Twenty-five years after its original release, the album currently sits at No. 1 on Apple Music’s Hip-Hop/Rap Albums chart, according to the supplied source.

The project marks Rick Rubin’s documentary directorial debut. Jay-Z, Daniel Kaluuya and Rubin executive produced the series, with Leila Mattimore and David Rohde serving as producers.
Jay-Z In 8 premieres Friday, September 18 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, with the first two episodes airing back-to-back. Both episodes will also be available to stream on HBO Max at that time.
Two new episodes are scheduled to premiere every Friday through October 9.
