In preparation for his highly anticipated album, Some Days I’m Good, Some Days I’m Not, Fridayy opened up about an emotional studio session with Meek Mill and how a chance meeting with Chris Brown led to his first Grammy win.

A Deeply Personal Track: “Proud of Me”

During the inaugural PLLRS event in Brooklyn on February 25, Fridayy shared the backstory of “Proud of Me,” a heartfelt tribute to his late father.

“Me and Meek had a show in New York at the Barclays. We had always been locked in,” Fridayy told journalist Keith Nelson Jr. “I went back to the crib, just trying to make a summer hook for someone. I wasn’t even thinking about my album because it was supposed to already be turned in.”

    However, inspiration struck unexpectedly.

“I just played the keys and freestyled that whole song in probably like an hour. That’s really my favorite song. It was therapy for me. When I listened back, it was like I was letting out how I felt. I’m saying, ‘I know he’s proud of me.’”

Recognizing that Meek Mill had also experienced the loss of his father, Fridayy knew the rapper would bring an authentic emotional depth to the track.

“I know Meek lost his father, and we connected over that last year when I lost mine. So, I FaceTimed him and played the song. He was getting chills over FaceTime,” he revealed.

Meek didn’t hesitate to get involved.

“I told him I needed him on the song. So, I pulled up on him, and he was in the booth for about 11 hours.”

Meek Mill’s Dedication in the Studio

The recording session turned into an intense, all-night effort.

“I ain’t gonna lie, Meek stayed in the booth for 11 hours. He struggled for probably three hours. He just stayed in there. I’m talking—he did not even drink water or nothing. We were there from 11:00 PM to 11:00 AM,” Fridayy recalled. “When he finished that verse, all I wanted to do was cry.”

From Chris Brown DM to Grammy Success

In addition to collaborating with Meek Mill, Fridayy reflected on how a conversation with Chris Brown changed his career.

“A few months after GOD DID, he DM’d me like, ‘We gotta link.’ I lied to him—I wasn’t even in L.A. But I told him, ‘I’m going to pull up on you in L.A. in two days.’”

Determined to make the opportunity count, Fridayy booked a flight and met Brown at his studio.

“I probably cried that night because he was one of the most humble guys I ever met in this game. I was in the studio with him like, ‘What you want to do?’ And he said, ‘Just lead the way. I want some of your sound.’ So, we locked in.”

This meeting eventually contributed to Fridayy’s first Grammy win, solidifying his place among the industry’s rising stars.

Some Days I’m Good, Some Days I’m Not Out Now

Fridayy’s latest album, Some Days I’m Good, Some Days I’m Not, officially dropped on February 28 and is now available on all streaming platforms. With deeply personal storytelling and powerful collaborations, the project showcases Fridayy’s journey through loss, resilience, and success.
