Apple TV is set to premiere Number One on the Call Sheet, a two-part docuseries paying tribute to the trailblazing contributions of Black leading men and women in Hollywood. The series will feature in-depth interviews with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, as they share their journeys to game-changing leading roles and their experiences breaking barriers in the entertainment industry.

Celebrating Black Leading Men and Women

The first installment, directed by Reginald Hudlin, is dedicated to “Black Leading Men in Hollywood.” It features legendary actors such as Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Eddie Murphy, Don Cheadle, Jamie Foxx, Idris Elba, and more, discussing their paths to success and the challenges they overcame. The second part, directed by Shola Lynch, focuses on the incredible careers of “Black Leading Women in Hollywood,” with appearances from Angela Bassett, Viola Davis, Halle Berry, Whoopi Goldberg, Taraji P. Henson, Cynthia Erivo, and others.

    The Impact of Iconic Actors

The docuseries explores the crucial role that iconic figures such as Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman have played in paving the way for the next generation of Black talent. Kevin Hart, featured in the trailer, acknowledges, “The actors of now, we don’t get here without your Denzel’s, your Morgan’s.” Freeman, in turn, humbly replies, “I am just an actor, I’m no different than you. But when you see me coming, stand back a little bit more.”

A Tribute to Resilience and Excellence

Angela Bassett, one of the stars of the series, expressed her vision for the documentary, saying, “Number One on the Call Sheet celebrates the grit, strength, and brilliance of those who came before us, while uplifting the next generation.” She continued, “It’s an honor to pay homage to the legends, and shine a light on the limitless possibilities ahead for Black and brown talent.”

Hudlin, the director, added, “Number One On The Call Sheet is the honest testimony of successful people who overcame all types of obstacles to make their dreams come true. It doesn’t matter what business you’re in, learning about their mindset, their grit, their unique definitions of success will be inspirational to every viewer. I can’t wait for the world to see it.”

    Release Date

Number One on the Call Sheet will premiere on Friday, March 28, exclusively on Apple TV. The docuseries is highly anticipated as it highlights the perseverance and accomplishments of Black artists who have reshaped Hollywood, inspiring audiences and future generations of talent.
