John Boyega has revealed two major personal milestones: he has been married for nearly two years, and he and his wife are expecting a baby boy.
The 43-year-old Star Wars actor shared the news in an interview with The Guardian, published October 4, while discussing his childhood friend Damilola Taylor and the documentary Damilola: The Untold Story.
Boyega disclosed that he had quietly tied the knot without making his marriage public.
“Coming up two years now,” he said when discussing how long he had been married.
The British-Nigerian actor kept his wife’s identity private but offered a playful glimpse into their wedding, comparing the proposal-like moment to a scene from Braveheart.
“Will you come with me?” he recalled, mimicking the dramatic gesture of planting a sword into the ground.
Boyega also revealed that he owns two sets of wedding rings. One has sentimental value, while the other came from an unexpected shopping trip to Walmart.
“This is the one we decided to pick up spontaneously because I just wanted the ring on my finger, so we went to Walmart to get this,” he explained. “It was a lovely trip to Walmart. Shout out, Walmart Canoga Park!”
Despite keeping their relationship largely out of the public eye, Boyega said he and his wife would love to hold a traditional Nigerian wedding celebration in the future.
The couple did not have a traditional Nigerian ceremony when they married, but the actor expressed enthusiasm about celebrating their heritage at a later date.
“We both like the idea of celebrating something established, rather than celebrating the entry,” he said. “And by then, we’ll have to shut Nigeria down!”
The wedding revelation was accompanied by news that the couple are preparing to welcome their first child together. Boyega confirmed that they are expecting a boy, describing the experience as deeply fulfilling.
“We got a baby cooking,” he said.
“My life is completely, completely fulfilled in terms of family. It’s been so nice with the timing,” he added.
Boyega has also spoken about the importance of being present as a parent, saying he wants to remain consistent and provide his child with love. He explained that he has tried to make room for family life, particularly after periods when work demanded much of his attention.
Meanwhile, speculation has linked Boyega to actress Lashontae “Tae” Heckard. Reports have pointed to their Instagram connection and Heckard’s reported “Tae Boyega” biography as possible clues. However, Boyega did not identify his wife in the interview, and neither party has publicly confirmed that Heckard is his spouse.
For an actor who has largely kept his romantic life away from the spotlight, the announcement offers a rare glimpse into his private world — and confirms that fatherhood is the next major chapter in his life.
