Diddy reportedly suffered a head injury during a fight with Jamaican drug lord Christopher “Dudus” Coke at FCI Fort Dix, with sources telling TMZ that tensions over prison raids and lost inmate privileges sparked the altercation.
According to multiple sources inside the New Jersey federal prison cited by TMZ, the confrontation happened last Friday. The sources said Diddy sustained the more serious injury and was taken to an outside medical facility for treatment.
Coke, whose full name is Christopher Coke, has been serving a 23-year prison sentence since 2012, according to the report.
The reported dispute allegedly stemmed from anger among inmates following news coverage of Diddy’s purportedly privileged conditions behind bars. NBC News previously reported allegations that the music mogul had access to items and services including a contraband cellphone containing nude photos, alcohol, massages and upgraded meals.
Following that coverage, prison officials reportedly conducted at least two raids and confiscated cellphones from inmates, including Coke. Sources told TMZ that the searches and the loss of privileges angered Coke and other prisoners, who allegedly blamed Diddy for bringing heightened scrutiny to the facility.
The account has not been independently verified, and the reported motive remains based on sources cited by TMZ.
Although Diddy is the prison’s most prominent celebrity inmate, sources described Coke as an influential figure among prisoners and suggested he was particularly unhappy about the reported loss of benefits.
Both men were reportedly placed in the Special Housing Unit, commonly associated with solitary confinement, for two weeks following the altercation. However, the report noted that Diddy was already being held in the unit after the earlier scrutiny surrounding his alleged prison privileges.
The fight reportedly occurred while Diddy was outside his housing unit during a scheduled daily break.
TMZ previously reported that Diddy was taken from Fort Dix by ambulance early Saturday morning for treatment of a head injury before returning to the prison. The latest account identifies Coke as the alleged participant in the confrontation and provides a possible explanation for the dispute.
The reported incident adds another development to the scrutiny surrounding Diddy’s incarceration. However, the details of the altercation, the extent of his injuries and the precise circumstances leading to the fight have not been established through an independently verified account.
