Kanye West Criticizes Kendrick Lamar’s Music and His Collaboration with Playboi Carti

The ever-controversial Kanye West has once again stirred the pot, this time setting his sights on fellow rap heavyweight Kendrick Lamar. Ye recently expressed his disappointment after Kendrick appeared on Playboi Carti’s latest album, MUSIC, which dropped to much fanfare. The album features Lamar on three tracks—“GOOD CREDIT,” “MOJO JOJO,” and “BACKD00R.”

Kanye wasted no time in sharing his thoughts about Kendrick’s involvement. Taking to social media, the Donda rapper boldly declared, “I DON’T LIKE KENDRICK LAMAR’S MUSIC. HE RAPS REALLY WELL, BUT I DIDN’T NEED TO HEAR HIM ON A CARTI ALBUM.”

Is This a Personal Attack or Just Honest Criticism?

Kanye’s remarks quickly sparked a debate among fans and industry insiders. While some see it as another example of Ye’s unfiltered honesty, others speculate that there may be underlying tension between the two artists.

Interestingly, Kendrick has yet to respond to Kanye’s comments. Given his track record of being selective about public feuds, it remains to be seen whether he will address the criticism or let his music do the talking.

Ye’s Past Take on the Kendrick-Drake Rivalry

Kanye’s comments about Kendrick come on the heels of his earlier remarks about Lamar’s high-profile rap feud with Drake. The 2024 battle between the two rap titans took over the industry, with diss tracks and cryptic social media posts fueling speculation.

In a recent conversation with influencer Justin LaBoy, Kanye reflected on the Kendrick-Drake beef, likening it to a cinematic battle. “I was like, ‘Man, you killed my nemesis. Where’s the movies if it ain’t no Drake?’ Or at least he took him down for a little bit. Maybe it’s like in superhero films where characters like Wolverine or something just go away for a couple films.”

Ye’s comments suggest that he saw Drake’s temporary downfall as a pivotal moment in the rap game but also acknowledged that major artists like him always find a way back into the spotlight.

    Kendrick’s Perspective on Rap Feuds

Though Kendrick has yet to respond to Kanye’s criticism, he has previously spoken about his approach to lyrical battles and competition in hip-hop. In an earlier interview, Lamar explained his stance on rap rivalries, emphasizing that he sees them as a part of the sport rather than personal vendettas.

“My intent, I think from day one, was to always keep the nature of it as a sport. I don’t care how muthaf*ckers look at it as far as, like… a collaborative effort. That’s cool, too, but I love when artists grit their teeth. I still watch battle raps, I still watch Smack/URL, from Murda Mook to Lux to Tay Roc, my bro Daylyt… This always been the core definition of who I am, and it’s been that way since day one.”

He continued, “What I will say about this year: It was more from a space where I think a lot of people were putting rap to the back, and you didn’t see that grit, you didn’t see that bite anymore. So I always took that into consideration.”

Lamar’s statement makes it clear that he values competition as a core element of hip-hop and sees battles as a way to push the culture forward. His focus on skill and lyrical prowess might explain why he remains unbothered by Kanye’s latest outburst.

    What’s Next?

With Kanye West’s history of igniting conflicts and making polarizing statements, it’s uncertain whether this will escalate into a full-fledged feud or fade away like some of his past controversies. Given Kendrick’s track record, he may not dignify Kanye’s criticism with a response. However, fans are undoubtedly eager to see if this latest episode will inspire any diss tracks or indirect shots in future projects.

Meanwhile, MUSIC, Playboi Carti’s new album, continues to dominate discussions, with fans dissecting Kendrick’s verses and debating whether Ye’s critique holds any weight.

As always, the rap world remains unpredictable, and only time will tell how this drama unfolds. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
