New York Yankees catcher J.C. Escarra is pushing back against the criticism surrounding the team’s use of “torpedo bats,” telling TMZ Sports that the focus should be on hitting the ball, not the equipment.

Despite the controversy surrounding the Yankees’ new bat design, which made waves after they debuted them in a series against the Milwaukee Brewers, Escarra is unfazed. He acknowledged that the team hit several home runs with the new bats but emphasized that success still depends on a player’s ability to swing and connect with the ball.

Torpedo Bats Stir Controversy in MLB

The Bronx Bombers took center stage over the weekend, sweeping the Brewers in three games. As the Yankees’ use of the modified bats gained attention, critics on social media accused MLB of turning a blind eye due to New York’s popularity. Many questioned why Commissioner Rob Manfred and the league allowed the Yankees to use altered bats, suggesting that preferential treatment was in play.

However, Escarra, who was spotted out at Raising Cane’s in Times Square with his mom, downplayed the controversy, stating that these bats are within the league’s regulations. He also pointed out that other MLB teams used similar bats during the opening weekend, not just the Yankees.

Escarra’s Take on the Bats and Upcoming Plans

While Escarra played down the drama, he did admit that the bats appear to be effective, revealing he plans to use one in an upcoming game after seeing the success his teammates had.

Escarra’s Remarkable Journey to the Yankees

Escarra’s story is one of perseverance and determination. The 29-year-old rookie spent years in the minor leagues before making it to the majors, even working as an Uber driver to make ends meet. His inspiring journey caught the attention of Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who ultimately added him to the roster this season.

In a recent interview, Escarra even joked that his incredible rise could make for a movie, mentioning two A-list actors he’d love to see play him in a Hollywood adaptation of his life.
