K Camp Opens Up About Tragedy, Heartbreak, and Being Overlooked: “I Lost My Daughter in My Arms”

K Camp recently sat down with HOT 97’s Nessa to discuss his deeply personal new album, Built Different, and the life experiences that shaped it. From heartbreak and betrayal to unimaginable loss, the Atlanta artist got real about the struggles behind his music—and why he refuses to be counted out.

During the emotional interview, K Camp revealed he lost both his cousin and his daughter, with the latter dying in his arms. The devastating moments, he said, reshaped how he views everything. “It changed my whole outlook on life,” he told Nessa. “You start moving different when you go through pain like that.”

Heartbreak, Betrayal, and Spinning the Block

K Camp didn’t shy away from addressing the emotional weight behind his lyrics. He spoke candidly about being let down by people he trusted and how love—whether romantic, platonic, or familial—can leave deep scars. On the subject of “spinning the block” (going back to a past relationship), he admitted he’s tried it before, but with mixed results. “Sometimes you think it’s gonna hit the same, but it don’t,” he said.

Feeling Overlooked and Almost Quitting Music

The Cut Her Off rapper also reflected on his early struggles in the industry. Despite hits and consistency, he often felt overlooked, especially by artists and gatekeepers who came before him. “I never got that co-sign coming up,” he said. “Nobody embraced me.” The lack of support almost led him to walk away from music entirely—until a life-changing spiritual conversation gave him renewed purpose.

TikTok Creators and the Fight for Credit

K Camp also gave a shoutout to TikTok creators, who’ve helped his music reach new audiences. He emphasized the importance of crediting the influencers who keep his tracks trending—especially when many in the industry didn’t show him love early on. “They helped put new life into my songs,” he said. “They deserve to be acknowledged.”

Why He Still Believes He’s One of the Greatest

Despite being slept on, K Camp isn’t backing down from his legacy. “I’m one of the greatest of my generation,” he declared confidently. And while the recognition may not always match the impact, he says he’s proud of the journey—and Built Different is proof of that.
