Chris Brown is embroiled in a lawsuit involving former NBA player Glen “Big Baby” Davis and pharmaceutical scientist Dr. Lyndsey White. The legal dispute, combined with ongoing criticism from women’s rights groups in South Africa, highlights the complex challenges the singer is currently facing.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Dr. Lyndsey White is suing Glen Davis over a failed business venture. White claims that she and Davis collaborated in 2021 to create a barbecue sauce and alleges she invested $30,000 in a marijuana company with him.

The lawsuit takes a turn with Chris Brown’s involvement. White alleges that Davis introduced her to Brown for a potential fragrance line collaboration. However, she claims Davis derailed her plans after his 2021 arrest for defrauding the NBA’s Players’ Health and Benefit Welfare Plan.

White accuses Davis of becoming “aggressive,” making her “fear for her life,” and severing her professional ties with Chris Brown, whom she described as a “major client.” The fallout from these events is now the subject of her lawsuit.

Women’s Rights Groups Protest Chris Brown in South Africa

On the music front, Chris Brown recently performed two sold-out concerts in South Africa, which sparked backlash from local women’s rights groups. The group Women For Change, led by executive director Sabrina Walter, expressed outrage over his performances given his history of violence against women.

“When I saw the news that Chris Brown was coming to South Africa, I was shocked,” Walter told the BBC. She explained that their petition against Brown’s performances, which has garnered over 20,000 signatures, aims to send a message against “celebrating individuals with a history of violence against women.”

South Africa has one of the world’s highest rates of femicide and gender-based violence, making the group’s stance especially significant. Walter stated, “When someone like Chris Brown is given a platform in a country where GBV is at crisis levels…it sends a damaging message, that fame and power outweigh accountability.”

The Broader Context

Chris Brown’s controversies continue to spark debate about accountability in the entertainment industry. While his music career thrives with sold-out shows and a dedicated fanbase, the criticism surrounding his history of violence and the current legal challenges reflect the tensions between his artistic success and personal reputation.

Stay tuned for updates on the legal dispute and the evolving discussion around Brown’s impact on global stages.
