Ugandan singer Liam Voice has sparked conversations about the role of churches in addressing the financial struggles of their members. Speaking on the Millennials For Christ Ministries podcast, the artist called on churches to go beyond prayers and fasting by offering direct financial assistance to those in need.

Criticism of Financial Practices

Liam Voice questioned why churches often fail to assist their struggling members, despite receiving significant financial contributions during services.

“Why do people bring money to church, for example?” he asked. “Someone might stay at home without eating anything, holding onto their last Shs10k, and still offer it to the church. But when that same person is in need, the church doesn’t help financially.”

He expressed frustration with churches prioritizing prayers over tangible solutions for members experiencing financial hardships.

A Call for Action

The singer proposed a practical approach to address the issue: redistributing a portion of church collections to help struggling members.

“A church can collect like Shs10m in one service, and in that very service, you might find 10 people without jobs who have contributed to that Shs10m. Can’t the church just get like Shs5m and distribute accordingly?”

Sparking a Broader Conversation

Liam Voice’s remarks have resonated with many, sparking debates about the responsibilities of religious institutions in supporting their communities. While some agree with his sentiments, others argue that the church’s role is primarily spiritual rather than financial.

A Voice for Change

As an influential figure, Liam Voice’s candid statements highlight the need for a broader conversation about how churches can better support their congregations, particularly in challenging economic times. His call for action reflects a growing sentiment among young people seeking accountability and tangible solutions from institutions they contribute to.
