Renowned Ugandan dancer Ritah Dancehall has announced her decision to explore a music career, citing financial instability as the primary reason for the shift. While she hasn’t completely abandoned dancing, Ritah says she’s ready to channel her talents into the music industry in hopes of better financial rewards.
Fame Without Financial Gains
Speaking candidly, Ritah admitted that despite her fame as a dancer, it wasn’t translating into the financial security she desires.
“I was looking for money, I can’t lie. We love fame but, in the end, it is about the money. I need to change home; I have got friends and everything, but I need money,” she confessed.
She revealed that this decision has been two years in the making, during which she prepared and refined her musical abilities.
Debut Single ‘Ndekie’
Ritah recently released her debut single, Ndekie, which she describes as inspirational and packed with energy. Addressing critics of her vocal abilities, Ritah acknowledged that she may not match the technical skills of top vocalists like Rema Namakula, Iryn Namubiru, or Chosen Becky but insists her focus is on bringing a vibe to her music.
“I just came into the industry with a vibe, and whoever is out there expecting to judge me for my vocals, you are wrong with that comment. I’m not here to convince people that I can actually sing. I’m just here to entertain my fans,” she said.
Friendship with Sheebah
As a close friend of Ugandan music queen Sheebah Karungi, Ritah was asked whether she plans to collaborate with her to boost her music career. Ritah responded diplomatically, noting that she would not pressure Sheebah into a collaboration but remains open to the idea.
“She is a queen, and she will do it when she pleases. I cannot put her under pressure or even push it; it might be something bigger than a collaboration,” Ritah remarked.
A Trial Run
Ritah acknowledges that her music career is a work in progress, and she’s prepared to step away if things don’t work out as envisioned. However, with her debut single gaining traction, she’s optimistic about her new venture.
This bold move marks a new chapter for Ritah Dancehall, as she seeks to expand her artistic reach while continuing to entertain her fans with her trademark energy and vibe.
