Oscar-winning actor and comedian Jamie Foxx has never been one to hold back when it comes to telling wild celebrity stories, and his latest revelation has left fans stunned—and amused. Appearing on the newest episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Stand-Up Roundtable, Foxx dropped a bombshell about a chaotic night with R&B legend Bobby Brown, and a once-in-a-lifetime moment involving the late, great Whitney Houston.

Joined by fellow comedians Sarah Silverman, Seth Meyers, Roy Wood Jr., and others, Foxx shared a surreal tale from a party years ago, where emotions, music, and some questionable closet shopping all collided under one roof.

“One night, me and Bobby Brown, we’re doing our thing, we’re f**ked up, and we’re doing ‘Don’t Be Cruel’,” Foxx said, describing the beginning of what would become a legendary night.

Whitney’s Private Performance Captured on Tape

As the story goes, Foxx excused himself to use the bathroom. But what happened while he was away shocked even him. From behind the door, he heard a voice—one of the most iconic in music history.

“While I’m in the bathroom, I hear, ‘Now Jamie, let me tell you something, I don’t do this for nobody. I usually get a million dollars to sing a song,’” Foxx recalled.

That voice belonged to Whitney Houston, who then began singing her iconic ballad “I Will Always Love You.” Naturally, Foxx did what anyone with access to a camera in that moment would do—he hit record.

“So now I got the tape,” Foxx revealed. “I go back to my crib, we’re having a little afterparty, and all of a sudden I hear this (knock, knock, knock)… It’s Bobby Brown.”

Bobby Brown Wanted the Tape — Or At Least Foxx’s Outfits

According to Foxx, Bobby Brown had one thing on his mind when he showed up at his house again: the footage. Apparently, the singer desperately wanted to retrieve the video of his then-wife’s impromptu performance.

“He’s like, ‘I got to take that tape,’” Foxx said. “I told him, ‘Bobby, I don’t have it.’”

    But Brown wasn’t leaving empty-handed.

“‘Well, I got to take something,’” Foxx continued. “So, he goes into my closet, and he’s taking clothes. He’s matching outfits and s**t.”

Foxx recounted the moment with his signature comedic charm, painting a vivid picture of Brown styling himself with pieces from Foxx’s own wardrobe in exchange for the unreturned tape.

Foxx Still Has the Tape—But Says It No Longer Matters

Despite Brown’s persistence, Foxx never handed over the tape. He still has it to this day—but says the footage is now obsolete.

“I have the tape,” he admitted. “But it doesn’t mean anything anymore. Why? YouTube.”

The suggestion here is that with so much footage of Whitney Houston now available online, even private moments seem less rare in the age of viral content. Still, for Foxx, the memory remains golden.

Foxx Addresses Stroke, Clone Conspiracy Theories

Elsewhere in the roundtable discussion, Foxx opened up about the disturbing rumors that circulated online during his medical emergency in 2023, when he was hospitalized following a serious health scare that was later revealed to be a stroke.

After he made a full recovery and re-emerged in public, some online conspiracy theorists claimed that the man who returned wasn’t actually him—but a clone.

“When they said I was a clone, that made me flip,” Foxx said, visibly emotional. “I’m sitting in the hospital bed, like, ‘These bch-ass muthafkas are trying to clone me.’”

The actor’s comment highlights the pressure celebrities face in the social media age, where speculation often overtakes truth. Despite facing a near-death experience, Foxx had to defend his identity from online trolls and skeptics.

A Night to Remember: Foxx’s Legendary Story Adds to Celebrity Lore

Jamie Foxx’s hilarious storytelling and his ability to weave humor into even the most surreal situations are part of what makes him such a beloved entertainer. His tale of Bobby Brown raiding his closet over a rare Whitney Houston recording adds yet another unforgettable anecdote to the vault of Hollywood party legends.

While many celebrity stories fade into tabloid history, this one—featuring three icons of music and film—feels destined to be retold for years to come. From private performances to unexpected fashion raids, it captures a moment in pop culture that’s too wild not to believe.
