Judge Mathis Questions Kanye’s Court Visit in Diddy Case

Judge Greg Mathis is speaking out — and he’s not holding back when it comes to Kanye West’s surprise appearance at Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal trial in New York this week.

In an exclusive sidewalk interview caught on Rodeo Drive, the famed TV judge made it clear that he’s not personally attending the trial, but he has some strong thoughts about the people who are showing up — especially Ye.

Kanye Shows Up, But Doesn’t Step In

ICYMI — Kanye West made headlines after pulling up to the federal courthouse in Manhattan on Friday, where Diddy’s ongoing trial is being held.

But his appearance raised eyebrows for a very different reason: he never entered the courtroom.

Instead, officials escorted Ye into a separate overflow room set up with a monitor so he could watch the proceedings. And after just 10 minutes, he dipped — no jury interaction, no public statement, just a flash of headlines.

???? TMZ captured the moment Ye walked into the courthouse with little fanfare, followed by a swirl of confusion and questions about his motives.

Judge Mathis Responds: “Why Was He Really There?”

So what does Judge Mathis think about Kanye’s stunt?

We caught up with the no-nonsense TV personality on Saturday in Los Angeles, and he didn’t mince words.

“I don’t know if Kanye was trying to start something or actually there to support Diddy,” Mathis told TMZ.
“If it’s genuine support, I’m all for it — but if it’s just drama, I question the intention.”

He made it clear that he won’t be attending the trial himself, but believes those who are truly close to Diddy should consider showing up.

“If I were a family member or friend, I’d want to be there. Not to condone anything, but to offer support during a difficult time.”

    Support ≠ Endorsement, Says Mathis

Mathis was careful to draw a firm line between support and endorsement.

While he believes in being present for people you love, he does not excuse Diddy’s alleged actions — especially given the severity of the federal charges he’s facing.

“Nobody should be defending criminal behavior,” he said.
“But that doesn’t mean you can’t stand by someone emotionally while they go through the process.”

It’s a reminder that support doesn’t have to mean approval — and that loved ones often show up even when headlines are ugly.

Where Diddy’s Case Stands: A Quick Recap

Diddy’s legal saga has been dominating entertainment news for weeks — and things are heating up.

The music mogul is currently facing federal charges related to:

    • Transportation to engage in prostitution
    • Conspiracy to commit a sex trafficking offense
    • Drug distribution
    • And additional serious allegations

One of the most damning testimonies came from a witness known only as “Jane,” who told the court that she arranged for a sex worker to be flown across state lines — with Diddy allegedly footing the bill.

    Judge Mathis weighed in:
“The prosecution’s strongest point so far is definitely Jane’s testimony. If they want a guilty verdict on all counts, though, they still have work to do.”

    Diddy’s Inner Circle: Too Quiet?

With the trial in full swing, some fans have noticed a surprising silence from Diddy’s typically high-profile circle of friends. Outside of Kanye’s brief (and somewhat awkward) appearance, few celebrities have shown public support.

Mathis says that needs to change — especially if these people are truly close to Diddy on a personal level.

“If you’re a real friend, now is when they need you. Not when it’s convenient,” he added.

But at the same time, he acknowledges that the optics are tricky, and some celebs might be staying away for fear of guilt by association.

    Kanye’s Visit: Stunt or Support?

So, was Kanye’s courthouse cameo a PR stunt or a heartfelt show of solidarity?

No one really knows for sure.

But the fact that he didn’t even enter the main courtroom and left so quickly has fueled speculation. Was he trying to make a statement? Or did he simply change his mind once he arrived?

Social media had plenty of theories:

@PopBuzzFeed: “Kanye showing up for 10 minutes and then vanishing feels VERY on-brand.”
@CourtTeaTalk: “Did he just want to say he ‘was there’? Or was it for Diddy — or for himself?”

    What Happens Next?

As the Diddy trial continues, all eyes are on the prosecution, who must now strengthen their case beyond Jane’s testimony if they want to lock in convictions across all charges.

Judge Mathis believes the case still has room to go either way, depending on what additional evidence and witnesses come forward in the coming days.

Final Thoughts: Celebrity Trials and Public Support

The intersection of celebrity and criminal justice is always messy — and this trial is no exception.

Kanye’s brief appearance only adds to the spectacle, while Judge Mathis offers a sobering perspective: public figures must be careful, not only with how they support their peers but also with how their actions are perceived.

“This isn’t about canceling someone or making excuses,” Mathis said.
“It’s about being human in moments that test our principles.”
