Master P to Retire From Music With Final Essence Fest Show in New Orleans

Hip-hop mogul and No Limit Records founder Master P is officially stepping away from music, capping off a legendary career with a final performance in his hometown of New Orleans.

The 54-year-old music pioneer — born Percy Miller — will take the stage one last time on July 6, 2025, during the Essence Festival at the Caesars Superdome. The farewell concert promises a rare No Limit reunion and a powerful tribute to the city that launched his journey.

“Say goodbye to Master P and hello to Coach P,” Miller said in an interview with WDSU’s Shay O’Connor.

A Legacy Built From the Ground Up

Raised in Calliope Projects, Master P turned hustle into a global brand. After launching No Limit Records in the 1990s, he revolutionized the business of hip-hop, selling over 100 million records and proving that independent ownership was not only possible — it was profitable.

Miller championed artist control, community empowerment, and generational wealth decades before it became industry standard. Under his leadership, No Limit became more than a label — it was a cultural movement.

From Rap Royalty to Civic Leadership

While Master P’s music career is winding down, his public service is only ramping up.

This year, he was named President of Basketball Operations at the University of New Orleans (UNO) — a role he calls life-saving. Inspired by his own high school coach, Miller is now dedicating himself to mentoring the next generation through basketball and education.

“Helping these kids get college degrees and stay off the streets — that’s my purpose,” he said. “Coaching is my mission now.”

Miller is also urging local support for UNO’s basketball program, requesting help from nutritionists, trainers, and advocates for arena upgrades. Those interested can reach out via [email protected].

Celebrating 20 Years Since Katrina, A Tribute to New Orleans

Master P’s final show will coincide with the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, offering a poignant tribute to New Orleans’ resilience and the community’s ongoing journey of recovery and strength.

Earlier this month, June 11 was officially declared Master P Day in Louisiana — honoring his impact as a musician, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and educator.

Beyond Music: A Mission of Mentorship

Even outside the music studio, Miller remains deeply involved in financial literacy programs that serve students across Louisiana. His NOLA Walk of Fame continues to honor local legends, and his entrepreneurship in film, fashion, and food serves as a blueprint for aspiring moguls.

“This isn’t the end,” Miller said. “It’s the beginning of something new — something bigger than me.”

    A True Mic Drop Moment

With a storied career spanning over three decades, Master P leaves behind a towering legacy in hip-hop — but he’s not retiring from purpose.

As he trades bars for basketballs and beats for mentorship, one thing is clear: Coach P is here to build champions — on and off the court.
