Mark Cuban REJECTED Kamala Harris VP Offer—Said “I’m Not Number Two!”

Mark Cuban could’ve been one heartbeat away from the presidency — but he flat-out said “no thanks.”

In a political “what if?” moment that’s making waves online, billionaire businessman and former Shark Tank star Mark Cuban revealed he was seriously considered as Vice President by then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris — and he turned it down in true Shark fashion.

“I’m not very good as the number two person,” Cuban admitted during a revealing interview on The Bulwark podcast.

And yes, he delivered the rejection with his iconic Shark Tank catchphrase:

    “For that reason, I’m out.”

A VP Offer? Yep, It Happened.

The bombshell moment came when host Tim Miller asked about a juicy bit of political gossip floating around DC: Was Mark Cuban really on Kamala Harris’ VP shortlist?

Without hesitation, Cuban confirmed it was true. The Harris campaign had reached out during her run for president in the 2024 election, seriously exploring him as a potential running mate.

But Cuban wasn’t interested in playing second string — not even to the most powerful woman in U.S. politics.

“The last thing we need is me telling Kamala, the president, ‘No, that’s a dumb idea,’” he said with a laugh.
“I’m not good at shaking hands and kissing babies.”

Oof. Honesty and ego? Classic Cuban.

    His Self-Vetting Would’ve Been… A Lot

Cuban also joked that his own background check would’ve been intense, implying that the skeletons in his closet (or the sheer volume of business ventures) could’ve raised eyebrows for a traditional political campaign.

While he didn’t go into detail, it’s safe to say a guy who’s built empires, gone viral on national TV, clashed with Elon Musk, and dropped millions on crypto… probably isn’t the easiest person to vet.

Who Did Harris End Up Choosing?

While Cuban removed himself from the equation early, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz ultimately got the nod — a safe, Midwest moderate with government experience and broad appeal.

    Other top contenders included:

    • Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro
    • Arizona Senator Mark Kelly

But none of them could offer the name recognition, media savvy, or economic credibility that Mark Cuban brought to the table.

Still, the Harris campaign went the traditional route… and, unfortunately for them, the outcome didn’t swing in their favor.

    The 2024 Election Fallout

Despite the star power around Harris — and even Cuban’s efforts to promote her — Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the 2024 general election, winning 312 electoral votes (far above the 270 required).

Cuban, although not her official VP pick, became a fierce public surrogate, frequently defending Harris on cable news and sparring with Trump supporters online, especially on X (formerly Twitter).

He didn’t hold back — often diving into policy debates, defending Harris’ leadership, and calling out what he viewed as misinformation from the right.

???? Would Cuban Have Changed the Outcome?

Now, the big question making rounds on political Twitter is this:

Would Mark Cuban have made a difference if he’d said yes?

Would his business acumen, media magnetism, and national profile have added the momentum Kamala needed to flip key states?

We’ll never know. But one thing is clear: Mark Cuban doesn’t play backup — in business, or in politics.

???? Social Media Reacts: “President Shark Tank?”

Fans and political junkies alike had a lot to say:

???? “Cuban would’ve been electric on the campaign trail. Missed opportunity.” — @PolitixPop

???? “Smart move by Mark. Being VP is mostly symbolic.” — @BizWatchDaily

    ???? “Shark Tank meets West Wing? I would’ve watched that election 24/7.” — @RealityRunsDeep

Even some Trump supporters chimed in, calling the Cuban reveal “proof” Harris didn’t know how to build a strong ticket.

    ???? TL;DR: What We Learned

    • Mark Cuban was approached to be Kamala Harris’ VP
    • He declined, saying he’s not suited to play second-in-command
    • Tim Walz ended up being Harris’ running mate
    • Trump defeated Harris in the 2024 general election
    • Cuban remained a vocal Harris supporter throughout the campaign

    ???? Your Take?

Would Cuban have helped Harris win? Or did he make the right call staying out of the race?
