A$AP Rocky Apologizes for Viral Met Gala Barricade Moment, Shares Inspiration Behind Iconic Look

As anticipation heats up for A$AP Rocky’s forthcoming album Don’t Be Dumb, the Harlem rapper is taking a moment to reflect—and clear the air—on a viral moment from last year’s Met Gala.

In a new Vogue “Life in Looks” interview, Rocky addressed the now-infamous clip where he vaulted over a barricade using a woman’s shoulder as a stepping stone outside The Carlyle Hotel. The moment sparked a flurry of social media reactions after the woman posted a selfie with the caption, “A$AP Rocky just literally jumped over me.”

“I was trying to get in my room, I was gonna be late for the Met Gala,” Rocky explained. “This poor young little lady, man, I didn’t even know that I messed up her glasses. Again, I apologize. I’m so sorry. I ain’t mean to do that, sweetheart. My fault.”

The candid apology came a year after the woman’s light-hearted post went viral. Rocky had responded at the time with, “LOL MY FAULT $WEETHEART,” to which she jokingly replied, “I’m printing this on a t-shirt. Why is A$AP now oomf?”

Paying Homage to Karl Lagerfeld in True A$AP Style

Rocky’s late arrival didn’t stop him from making a grand entrance. Dressed for the “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” theme, he rocked a bold ensemble featuring a kilt layered over jeans, a single glove, and an array of heavy accessories.

“Sometimes I’m just embodying that spirit,” he said of the tribute to the late fashion icon. “We kind of wanted to exaggerate the kilt a little bit so it could feel more grand… I was just like, ‘Man, I’m going full throttle today.’ We gonna do one glove. We gonna do some Michael Jackson s**t, you know, we want all of the belts like Karl… This is when over-accessorizing goes right.”

    Back to the Booth

Though Don’t Be Dumb still doesn’t have a confirmed release date, A$AP Rocky has reassured fans that new music is on the way. The rapper is reportedly back in the studio following his not guilty verdict in a high-profile 2022 shooting case, signaling a fresh creative chapter.

Between playful apologies, fashion statements, and a highly anticipated album, A$AP Rocky is once again proving why he remains one of the most captivating figures at the intersection of music and style.
