Charlie Kirk Suspect Tyler Robinson Claimed Doppelganger Did the Shooting

The chilling aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley University took a bizarre twist as his suspected killer, Tyler Robinson, allegedly messaged dozens of people online claiming a lookalike fired the fatal shot.

According to a New York Times report, Robinson was active on social media after the FBI released photos of him—images described as “spitting images” of the 22-year-old suspect.

Social Media Messages Reveal Odd Defense

Robinson reportedly chatted with at least 20 individuals, weaving a confusing narrative about the murder.

    • When one person tagged Robinson in a post with the FBI’s released images and asked where he was during the killing, Robinson allegedly blamed a doppelganger trying to frame him.
    • Another social media user suggested reporting Robinson to claim the $100,000 FBI reward, to which Robinson joked,

“Only if I get a cut,”

accompanied by an avatar of John Arbuckle, the bumbling character from Garfield.

    • He also referenced a high-profile shooting in Pennsylvania involving Luigi Mangione, quipping,

“Whatever you do, don’t go to a McDonalds anytime soon.”

Robinson continued to joke about evidence, telling contacts he needed to “get rid of this manifesto and exact copy rifle I have lying around.”

Conflicting Stories and Criticism of FBI

In a bizarre twist, Robinson suggested the shooter hailed from California, before pivoting to reference the “trans” inscriptions found on ammunition recovered near the Utah Valley University stage.

He also allegedly criticized the FBI investigation, claiming it was fabricated by a “dude in the briefing room.”

FBI Confirms Details of the Shooting

The FBI maintains that Robinson fired a single shot into Kirk’s neck while the conservative commentator addressed a large audience. Kirk was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Authorities quickly tracked Robinson down after his father recognized him in surveillance footage, turning him in to federal agents. Robinson now faces aggravated murder charges and is being held in custody as the investigation continues.

Discord and Social Media Role in Investigation

The New York Times report highlights how online platforms played a role in the post-assassination chatter. Officials have scrutinized Robinson’s social media activity, including Discord conversations, to piece together his actions and mindset after the killing.

Efforts to reach Discord for comment on the reported chats have not yielded a response.

    Public Reaction and Ongoing Investigation

The unsettling social media activity adds another layer of complexity to a case already drawing intense national attention. While Robinson’s claims of a doppelganger are widely dismissed by law enforcement, the posts illustrate the bizarre, sometimes taunting behavior of the suspect amid one of the fastest-moving FBI manhunts in recent memory.
