Dave East is officially running his own lane. With the release of his latest album, “Karma 4”, the New York rapper is enjoying the full perks of creative independence, controlling every aspect of his music.
TMZ Hip Hop caught up with Dave during his Los Angeles press run, where he took a break to check in with Marathon Burger, which he declares is the best burger not only in California but in multiple states.
“This place is life. You can’t come to LA without hitting Marathon,” Dave said.
Honoring Nipsey Hussle With “12 Months”
“Karma 4” features 25 tracks, including a standout collab with the late Nipsey Hussle called “12 Months”, produced by Mike & Keys, who have been long-time collaborators for both artists.
Dave shared that he worked closely with Nipsey’s brother, Blacc Sam, to obtain clearance for the track.
“It feels amazing to bring Nipsey’s voice back to the space, especially for fans who haven’t heard him on new tracks in a while,” Dave said.
The collaboration is a full-circle moment, as Nipsey had featured Dave on several of his earlier projects. Dave sees it as paying it forward and honoring a late friend and mentor.
Food, Family, and NYC Roots
While in LA, Dave East gave a shoutout to Marathon Burger, but he also shared love for his NYC go-to spots, including El Puerto Seafood and Brooklyn Chop House.
“I like keeping some spots lowkey, because not many people from my world are around,” he said, emphasizing his connection to his hometown community.
It’s clear that food, culture, and community play a big role in Dave’s creative process.
Lessons for the Youth
Beyond the beats and rhymes, Dave East wants “Karma 4” to be more than just music—it’s a lesson-filled album for the next generation.
“I want people to listen and take something from my story. These are life lessons, straight from the heart,” he explained.
Whether it’s hustling in music, respecting your roots, or enjoying the best burgers along the way, Dave East is sharing his journey authentically with fans worldwide.
What Fans Can Expect
From introspective tracks to hard-hitting collabs, “Karma 4” blends East Coast storytelling with universal life lessons. With the Nipsey feature anchoring the album, fans are guaranteed a mix of emotion, respect, and straight-up New York grit.
“This album is for anyone chasing their dreams. Keep pushing, keep learning,” Dave added.
