A former child actor is among the victims tragically killed in the massive Los Angeles wildfires. Rory Callum Sykes, known for his role in the 1990s UK show “Kiddy Kapers,” lost his life at his family’s Malibu home on Wednesday. His mother, Shelley Sykes, shared the heartbreaking news in an emotional social media post.

The British-born Australian actor, who was born blind and with cerebral palsy, resided in a cottage on his family’s 17-acre Mount Malibu TV Studio estate. According to Shelley, the estate was entirely consumed by the fire.

In her post, Shelley recounted her desperate attempt to save her son. She tried to extinguish cinders on his roof using a hose, but her efforts were hampered as the water supply had been cut off. “50 brave firefighters had no water all day!” she lamented.

Speaking to Australian news outlet 10 News First, Shelley shared the devastating moments leading up to her son’s death. “He said, ‘Mum, leave me,’ and no mum could leave their kid. I’ve got a broken arm, I couldn’t lift him, I couldn’t move him,” she said. When the fire department brought her back, her son’s cottage had been reduced to ashes.

Rory Callum Sykes was just 32 years old.

The Palisades Fire, which erupted on Tuesday, has become the most destructive wildfire in Los Angeles history. By Saturday morning, 11 fatalities had been confirmed across all affected areas. Over 100,000 evacuation orders have been issued, with zones extending overnight to Brentwood and Encino as the inferno sweeps further east.

The tragic loss of Rory Sykes highlights the devastating personal toll of these wildfires, which have already displaced thousands and destroyed countless homes. The incident has also reignited concerns over resource allocation and fire preparedness, as local residents, including Shelley Sykes, have criticized the lack of water and infrastructure during the crisis.

Rory, a beloved son and former star, is remembered for his resilience and contributions to the entertainment industry despite the challenges he faced. His passing is a stark reminder of the human cost of these catastrophic events.

Rest in peace, Rory Callum Sykes.
