Jay-Z may be preparing to trade his role behind the scenes for the biggest performance of his career, with a new report claiming the rap mogul has selected himself to headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show in February 2027. The potential booking would put the 56-year-old rapper in front of one of the largest television audiences in the world.
According to Puck, which cited multiple sources, Jay-Z was selected over other major names reportedly considered for the show, including Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber. Neither the NFL nor Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, has officially confirmed the reported decision.
The unusual twist is that Jay-Z has played a major role in choosing the NFL’s halftime performers since 2019, when Roc Nation entered a partnership with the league to help produce the show and oversee its musical direction. That agreement was extended in 2024 for another five years, further cementing his influence over one of America’s biggest live entertainment events.
If the report proves accurate, the Brooklyn-born rapper would move from selecting the halftime headliner to becoming the main attraction himself.
The timing also aligns with a busy period for Jay-Z. His 2026 concert run celebrated the anniversaries of two landmark albums: Reasonable Doubt, released in 1996, and The Blueprint, released in 2001.
Those celebrations delivered substantial box-office results. According to figures reported by music outlets, Jay-Z’s three Yankee Stadium concerts generated approximately $42.3 million in ticket revenue, demonstrating the commercial appeal of his catalogue decades into his career.

Jay-Z is also scheduled to perform two shows at SoFi Stadium on October 23 and 24, 2026. The venue is set to host Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027, creating an opportunity for the rapper to address the reports while already performing at the stadium. However, no announcement has been confirmed.
The reported selection has also prompted questions about the arrangement that gives Jay-Z significant influence over the booking process. If he headlines, he would be performing at an event whose musical direction he has helped shape through Roc Nation’s partnership with the NFL.
Meanwhile, speculation about possible guest appearances has begun, with Beyoncé among the names fans may hope to see onstage. However, no guest performers have been confirmed, and any appearance by Beyoncé or other artists remains speculation.
For now, the biggest question is whether Jay-Z will officially take the halftime stage himself. Until the NFL or Roc Nation makes an announcement, the reported booking remains unconfirmed—even if the man responsible for choosing the headliner is now said to be the leading candidate.
